BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY MINUTES June 5, 2018 Regular Session: The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. in the Common Council Chambers. Members present were: Gary Henriott, Cindy Murray and Norm Childress. Absent: Ron Shriner and Dawn Ross Jacque Chosnek, 1st Deputy City Attorney, was also present. President Henriott called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was given to the flag of our Country. MINUTES Mr. Childress moved for approval of the minutes from the May 29, 2018 regular meeting. Mrs. Murray seconded. Passed. NEW BUSINESS Legal Counsel Resolution 02-2018 A Resolution of the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Lafayette, Indiana, Approving Real Estate Purchase Agreement for the Water Pollution Control Department Jacque Chosnek presented to the Board and recommended approval of Resolution 02-2018 A Resolution of the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Lafayette, Indiana, Approving Real Estate Purchase Agreement for the Water Pollution Control Department (Lafayette Renew) for the purchase of real state at 2327 Wallace Avenue. The total purchase price with credits is $100,000.00. Brad Talley, Renew Superintendent, stated that these utilities need moved out of the way in preparation for the Loeb Stadium Project. This will house an underground storage area for stormwater. The house will be removed and the underground technology will be added in that area. There will be a parking lot on top to accommodate Columbian Park Zoo and stadium parking needs. Mrs. Murray moved for approval. Mr. Childress seconded. Passed. Purchasing Declaration of Surplus-Police Department Dave Payne, Purchasing Manager, presented to the Board and recommended approval of a Declaration of Surplus for the Police Department. The items include a Motorola Astro radio, Motorola Spectra radio, Nikon D90(body, battery & charger) and a Nikon D90(body, lens, battery, charger and strap). The items will be traded in on a future radio purchase. Mr. Childress moved for approval. Mrs. Murray seconded. Passed. Board of Public Works and Safety June 5, 2018 Page 2 Vehicle Trade-In Authorization Mr. Payne presented to the Board and recommended approval of a Vehicle Trade-In Authorization for the Street Department. The two vehicles include a 1999 Chevrolet C8500 and a 1998 International 4900 Tandem. These vehicles will be traded in on a vehicle at a later date. Mrs. Murray moved for approval. Mr. Childress seconded. Passed. CLAIMS Tim Clary, Deputy Controller, presented for Board approval, Claims in the amount of $2,496,474.14. President Henriott asked if there were any further questions and there were none. Mr. Childress moved for approval. Mrs. Murray seconded. Passed. MISCELLANEOUS Special Event Request-Children’s Box Parade President Henriott presented to the Board and recommended approval of Special Event Request for the Children’s Box Parade to be held on June 30, 2018 from 10:00am-1:00pm from Hitt Street to South Street on S. 9th Street ending on the Fowler Lawn. Mrs. Murray moved for approval. Mr. Childress seconded. Passed. Special Event Request-Lunch in the Park Clayton Rutherford, Health Department, presented to the Board and recommended approval of Special Event Request for the Lunch in the Park to be held on June 21, 2018 from 10:00am-2:00pm at Riehle Plaza. This event will raise awareness for immunizations for the Greater Lafayette area for adults and children. Mr. Childress moved for approval. Mrs. Murray seconded. Passed. Special Event Request-Joint Church Religious Service Don Lindstrom, Event Representative, presented to the Board and recommended approval of Special Event Request for the Joint Church Religious Service to be held on July 1, 2018 from 7:30am-1:00pm on the 300 block of N. 6th Street. Mr. Childress moved for approval. Mrs. Murray seconded. Passed. Proclamation-Alzheimer’s Awareness Month Mayor Roswarski read the following proclamation: WHEREAS, Alzheimer’s disease is the nation’s sixth-leading cause of death, affecting more than 5.7 million Americans and 110,000 Hoosiers living with the disease; and WHEREAS, more than 338,000 family members and friends in Indiana provide 385 million hours of unpaid care for a loved one with Alzheimer’s; and WHEREAS, the physical and emotional impact of dementia caregiving is estimated to have resulted in $11.4 billion in health care costs for Alzheimer’s and dementia caregivers in 2017; and Board of Public Works and Safety June 5, 2018 Page 3 WHEREAS, the total Indiana Medicaid costs in 2018 for Americans with dementia age 65 and older is $981 million; and WHEREAS, early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s could save as much as $7.9 trillion in health and long-term care expenditures; and WHEREAS, the State of Indiana recognizes the efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association to highlight early detection and diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, education, support and research, thereby improving the financial, physical, and emotional health for those living with Alzheimer’s disease and their caregivers; THEREFORE, I do hereby proclaim June 2018 as Alzheimer's Awareness Month.
