REGULAR MEETING OF THE LAFAYETTE PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD 4:00 pm 14 June 2021 The City of Lafayette Parks and Recreation Board met in regular meeting at 4:00pm, June 14, 2021. The meeting was held at Rush Pavilion in Columbian Park. The meeting was called to order by Park Board President, Maurie Denney. Board members present were Dave Mecklenburg, Pat Corey and Matt Metzger. Park Superintendent Claudine Laufman, Parks Director of Operations Jon Miner, Zoo Director Neil Dale, Marketing Manager Samantha Haville, Maintenance Manager Mike Perry, and Recording Secretary Jenny Spencer were also present. Upon motion by Mr. Mecklenburg, seconded by Mr. Metzger, and unanimously carried, minutes of the May 17, 2021 Parks Board meeting were approved. Upon motion of Ms. Corey, seconded by Mr. Mecklenburg, and unanimously carried, General Fund Claims in the amount of $96,684.40, Non-Reverting Fund Claims in the amount of $40,913.54 for a total of $137,597.94 were approved. Superintendent’s Report In lieu of formal Superintendent’s Report, Superintendent Laufman answered questions from the Board. Questions included shelter rental volume and penguin arrival from Ms. Corey, Aviator partnership questions from Mr. Mecklenburg, and parking issues at Crosser question from Mr. Denney. Erie Street Garden Update by Margy Deverall • Ms. Deverall provided information from a grant application that puts Tippecanoe County in the category of food security issues for over 29,000 of the population. There are three schools in the community with greater than 75% qualifying for free or reduced lunch. Of those three, Grow Local works with two at the third-grade level giving garden classes. Two grants were applied for and received to purchase tilling equipment, also giving funding for a storage shed at Erie Street Neighborhood Garden site. With ten sharing gardens and ten educational gardens, Superintendent Laufman commended Ms. Deverall for the level of community engagement. Upon motion of Ms. Corey, seconded by Mr. Metzger, and unanimously carried; the Board provided approval for purchase and placement of the storage shed. Upon motion of Mr. Mecklenburg, seconded by Mr. Metzger (see attachment A) and unanimously carried, a piece of the old McCaw Park Playground was declared Surplus Property.
