REGULAR MEETING OF THE LAFAYETTE PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD 4:00 pm 11 July 2022 The City of Lafayette Parks and Recreation Board met in regular meeting at 4:00pm, July 11, 2022. The meeting was held at Rush Pavilion in Columbian Park. The meeting was called to order by Park Board President, Pat Corey. Board members present were Matt Metzger, Maurie Denney and Dave Mecklenburg. Parks Superintendent Claudine Laufman, Director of Operations Jon Miner, Security Director Kurt Wolf, Maintenance Manager Mike Perry, Marketing Manager Samantha Haville, Assistant Zoo Director Caitlin Laffery and Recording Secretary Jenny Spencer were also present. Upon motion by Mr. Mecklenburg, seconded by Mr. Metzger, and unanimously carried, minutes of the June 29, 2022 Parks Board meeting were approved. Upon motion of Mr. Denney seconded by Mr. Mecklenburg, and unanimously carried, General Fund Claims in the amount of $119,914.00, Non-Reverting Fund Claims in the amount of $63,039.97 and Bond Fund Claims in the amount of $462,684.38 for a total of $645,638.35 were approved. Superintendent’s Report • Superintendent Laufman provided a recap of the highly successful America concert. Over 2,300 were sold in a highly collaborative partnership with The Long Center. The Justin Moore concert on Sept. 2 has over 1,500 tickets sold. Ms. Corey gave an overview from a volunteer standpoint and shared her kudos. Superintendent Laufman went on to share that Lafayette Parks and Recreation will be hosting the IPRA District meeting on July 14. • Marketing Manager Haville shared that the upcoming Art in the Park is Movie Night at Murdock Park on July 12. Encanto will be shown on the sledding hill. The vendors will be there from 6pm-8:30pm with the movie beginning at 7pm. The rescheduled AIP Dance Night will be July 26 at Columbian Park. Almost all original groups will be attending. Zoo Run Run is Sat. July 16, the route is through Columbian Park. Registration is available through midnight July 14. Ashley Wolfe has been hired as Marketing and Event Coordinator. She is scheduled to start July 25. • Ass’t Zoo Director Laffery provided an update on zoo events. The first Adult Zoo Camp was held last Thursday. It sold out in twelve hours. The next one is Aug. 4. All spots are filled with an extensive wait list. Adult Camp consists of a nostalgic game/craft, animal meet and greet followed by an Aviators game with adult concessions available. Park Board Minutes 7/11/2022 Page 1 • Superintendent Laufman provided an update on the Columbian Park Restroom project. There is some grading being done on the outside and some punch list items and tweaking being done on both the inside and outside of the building. • Director of Operations Miner shared the update on the Cat Park All Inclusive Sports Field project. There was a delay in delivery of masonry for the dug-outs and announcer’s booth. Delivery is scheduled for the end of next week. We did go through a punch list of completed items. The scoreboard and bleachers were ordered today. The playing surface looks good. • Dir. of Operations Miner continued with the update on Murdock Park playground installation. Some of the parts and pieces didn’t line up or fit. Maintenance has been working with the vendor. The playground should be completed by the end of this week, then work will begin on the shelter. • The Aquatics update was also provided by Dir. of Operations Miner. Through July 10, revenue at Tropicanoe Cove is $323,764 compared to $278, 971 in 2021. Average attendance is 934/day this season vs. 853/day in 2021. Revenue and attendance similarly increased year over year at both Castaway and Vinton as well. We had a rain out on Friday, July 8. Concessions revenue in 2022 is over $111,000 compared to $96,000 in 2021. There are 17 private events scheduled at the Cove and 2 private events at Castaway Bay. A short discussion followed related to COVID’s impact on 2021 revenue.
