REGULAR MEETING OF THE LAFAYETTE PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD 4:00 pm 25 July 2022 The City of Lafayette Parks and Recreation Board met in regular meeting at 4:00pm, July 25, 2022. The meeting was held at Rush Pavilion in Columbian Park. The meeting was called to order by Park Board President, Pat Corey. Board members present were Dave Mecklenburg and Maurie Denney. Parks Superintendent Claudine Laufman, Director of Operations Jon Miner, Security Director Kurt Wolf, Marketing Manager Samantha Haville, McAllister Recreation Manager Chad Aldridge, and Director of Facilities and Grounds Mike Perry were also present. Upon motion by Mr. Mecklenburg, seconded by Mr. Denney, and unanimously carried, minutes of the July 11, 2022 Parks Board meeting were approved. Upon motion of Mr. Mecklenburg seconded by Mr. Denney, and unanimously carried, General Fund Claims in the amount of $14,426.21, Non-Reverting Fund Claims in the amount of $42,891.81 for a total of $55,318.02 were approved. Superintendent’s Report  Marketing Manager Haville introduced the new Marketing & Special Events Coordinator, Ashley Wulff. Miss Wulff is a recent grad of Washington State University with a degree in Strategic Communications. She is very excited to begin this position. Mrs. Haville shared a marketing report which included mention of the rescheduled Art in the Park: Dance Night for Tuesday, July 26 in Columbian Park. The event will include dance performances on the Memorial Island stage by Dance Moves and Gymnastics, Dance Dynamics, and the Prairie Grass Cloggers. The event will also have six food tucks, and 25 art vendors, as well as a free kids’ craft. Mrs. Haville shared that on Thursday, July 28 she would be hosting VLWL’s Tourism Partner group in a tour through Columbian Park. She also shared that that evening the Purdue Summer Band and Lafayette Citizen’s Band will be performing on the Memorial Island stage beginning at 6:00pm. Next Tuesday, August 2 is the final Art in the Park of the season: Jazz Night at Armstrong Park. The event will feature a jazz trio from the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra as well as a free kids’ craft, food trucks, and 35 art vendors.  Superintendent Laufman commended her team for a successful hosting of the IPRA district meeting. The meeting consisted of about 15 attendees who enjoyed a presentation about Columbian Park’s history, recent improvements, and the Columbian Park Zoo. Lunch was provided and then the group took a very thorough tour of Columbian Park. Superintendent Laufman noted that the event was very well-received and there were many positive comments made about Columbian Park. Park Board Minutes 6/29/2022 Page 1   Superintendent Laufman shared an update about the restroom building. The punch list has several dangling items including plumbing repairs, trim replacement, etc. Hopefully the building will be re-inspected in the next week or two.  Director of Operations Jon Miner shared an update about the CAT Park project. The punch list has been distributed. The mason is supposed to be on site this week. Mr. Miner is hoping that masonry work will be completed this week.  Mr. Miner then shared an update about the Murdock Park playground. The playground is complete. The site is being cleaned up this week. Work will soon begin on the new picnic shelter. Once the shelter and landscaping is complete, a ribbon-cutting ceremony will be planned.  Superintendent Laufman asked Director of Operations Jon Miner to share an aquatics update. Mr. Miner shared that all three facilities are doing well. Final days of the season have been determined. Due to staffing, the last day of the season for Castaway Bay and Vinton Pool will be Sunday, August 7. The last day of the regular season for Tropicanoe Cove, before moving to weekends-only, will be Sunday, August 14. After that, Tropicanoe Cove will be open weekends-only through Labor Day (depending on staffing). The Pooch Plunge will be held at Castaway Bay on Tuesday, August 9 and Wednesday, August 10, with a rain date of August 11.  Superintendent Laufman concluded her report. Upon motion by Mr. Denney, seconded by Mr. Mecklenburg, and unanimously carried, Declaration of Surplus property was approved (See Attachment A).
