REGULAR MEETING OF THE
LAFAYETTE PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD
4:00 pm
15 May 2023
The City of Lafayette Parks and Recreation Board met in regular meeting at 4:00pm,
May 15, 2023. The meeting was held at Rush Pavilion in Columbian Park.
The meeting was called to order by Park Board President Matt Metzger. Board members present
were Maurie Denney and Siany Molina. Parks Superintendent Claudine Laufman, Parks
Director of Operations Jon Miner and Recording Secretary Jenny Spencer were present. Parks
staff members present were Mike Perry, Neil Dale, Chad Aldridge, Kurt Wolf, Samantha Haville
and Ashley Wulff,
Upon motion by Ms. Molina, seconded by Mr. Denney and unanimously carried, minutes of the
April 17, 2023 Parks Board meeting were approved with scrivener’s error correction.
Upon motion of Mr. Denney, seconded by Ms. Molina, and unanimously carried, General Fund
Claims in the amount of $141,873.41, Non-Reverting Fund Claims in the amount of $37,432.23
and Beautification Fund Claims of $400.00 for a total of $179,705.64 were approved.
Superintendent’s Report:
• Marketing Manager, Samantha Haville shared with the Board details of All-Inclusive
Sports Field dedication at CAT Park on May21, 2023 at 5:45pm. There have been
several media appearances surrounding the improvements at McCaw Park and Armstrong
Park. The opening of a second lifeguard class for the season was the topic of an interview
Mr. Miner had with Star City News. Ms. Haville also provided an update of ticket sales
for the upcoming Air Supply concert at Loeb Stadium. In closing, Ms. Haville provided
a social media update in which there were gains on all platforms except Twitter.
• McAllister Recreation Center Director, Chad Aldridge provided an update on activities at
McAllister. A mother/son date night has been scheduled with games and laser tag.
Sporties for Shorties t-ball finished last week. Summer camp begins next week with 324
campers and thirty counselors hired to date. Tuck pointing continues with 90%
completed on the first level.
• Director of Operations Jon Miner provided an aquatics update. Pools open May 27. Staff
orientations began last week. Seventy-eight lifeguards have been hired. He is hopeful
that the upcoming lifeguard class with help push the number up. There are currently nine
registrants. Paddleboats will be in the water beginning opening weekend.
• Superintendent Laufman gave a project update:
- The Zoo Commissary Design project continues. Superintendent Laufman shared
graphics with Board members.
- The McCaw Park project is focused on tree line clean up. Renew is onsite to install
storm pipe. JR Kelly will be pouring footers for the bathroom building soon.

- Columbian Park restroom building update: The part to repair the door we have been
waiting for is still delayed. The parking lot is being striped and the maintenance
landscaping crew will be landscaping the area.
- Columbian Park Irrigation has seen the first stage completed. The next step is to
begin work at Loeb Stadium.
Communications:
• Board: Mr. Denny posed a question regarding spring cleaning at Loeb, and the difficulty
to keep an outdoor venue clean in the Spring. A discussion followed with Mr. Miner
providing detail and strategies in place for seasonal cleaning.

There being no further business to come before the Board, on motion of Mr. Denney, seconded
by Ms. Molina, and unanimously carried, the meeting adjourned at 4:21 pm.
