REGULAR MEETING OF THE LAFAYETTE PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD 4:00 pm 12 June 2023 The City of Lafayette Parks and Recreation Board met in regular meeting at 4:00pm, June 12, 2023. The meeting was held at Rush Pavilion in Columbian Park. The meeting was called to order by Park Board President Matt Metzger. Board members present were Maurie Denney, Dave Mecklenburg and Siany Molina. Parks Superintendent Claudine Laufman, Parks Director of Operations Jon Miner and Recording Secretary Jenny Spencer were present. Parks staff members present were Mike Perry, Caitlin Laffery, Tyler Laufman, Kurt Wolf, Samantha Haville and Ashley Wulff. City Council Member, Eileen Hession Weiss and Deb Schmucker, representing Cornerstone PDS were also present. Upon motion by Mr. Denney, seconded by Ms. Molina and unanimously carried, minutes of the May 15, 2023 Parks Board meeting were approved. Upon motion of Mr. Mecklenburg, seconded by Mr. Denny, and unanimously carried, General Fund Claims in the amount of $58,587.83, Non-Reverting Fund Claims in the amount of $67,569.46 for a total of $126,157.294 were approved. Superintendent’s Report: • Superintendent Laufman introduced Deb Schmucker of Cornerstone PDS. Cornerstone is assisting with the Five-Year Master Plan research and design. To date there have been over eight hundred responses to the online survey. A Public Open House is being held on July 11 at Rush Pavilion during the Columbian Park Art in the Park event to take the public comments and suggestions for the master plan. • McAllister Recreation Center Program Director, Tyler Laufman provided information on Kids Fishing Day being held on Saturday, June 17th from 9am – 12pm at Munger Park. A generous donation from Academy Sports was used to secure casting fish poles rather than the previously used rod with string. These poles will be used from year to year. • Marketing Manager Haville announced that tickets for the Taylor Swift laser light show go on sale tomorrow. The show is 9:30pm-11:00pm on July 27th. Ticket sales continue for the Air Supply concert on July 28th with just over 2,300 tickets having been sold. Art in the Park Dance Night was a success. The dancing groups brought many excited performers and spectators. Attendance prior to the rain showers was around five hundred. The next Art in the Park is Tuesday, June 20th at CAT Park. The Tippy Stars will be having a game at 6pm. There will be live music for entertainment as well as the art vendors. Ms. Haville also provided a social media update with growth among all platforms. • Project Updates - Assistant Zoo Director Caitlin Laffery provided an update on the Zoo Commissary Building plan design. The weekly design plan meetings should wrap up soon. The Park Board Minutes 6/12/2023 Page 1 Commissary building will be an exciting addition and will be pivotal to zoo operations. - The McCaw Park project is focused on infrastructure with Renew onsite to install storm pipe. JR Kelly has poured the lower portion of the walls. Mussche Excavating is cutting the driveway. Waterworks has installed a new hydrant. - Columbian Park restroom building update: The elusive door part finally arrived and the door has been installed. - Columbian Park Irrigation has extended to the outfield at Loeb Stadium and is progressing well. - The Munger Park playground swings are up. It is projected to be a five-week installation. Each piece will be removed and replaced individually. - The tuck-pointing at McAllister is looking great and should wrap up this week. Director of Operations Miner shared an aquatics update. On opening day, the pump motor went out in the slide. It has since been fixed. Numbers for opening day however were the best seen in several years. Mr. Miner then provided a detailed revenue report on all three pools including concessions. Upon motion by Mr. Denney, seconded by Ms. Molina and unanimously carried, the Declaration of Surplus Property was approved.
