REGULAR MEETING OF THE
LAFAYETTE PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD
4:00 pm
24 July 2023
The City of Lafayette Parks and Recreation Board met in regular meeting at 4:00pm,
July 24, 2023. The meeting was held at Rush Pavilion in Columbian Park.
The meeting was called to order by Park Board President Matt Metzger. Board members present
were Maurie Denney and Siany Molina. Parks Superintendent Claudine Laufman, Parks
Director of Operations Jon Miner were present. Parks staff members present were Mike Perry,
Kurt Wolf, Caitlin Laffery, Samantha Haville and Ashley Wulff. Jackie Marshall and Greg
Simpson were guests present for the meeting.
Upon motion by Ms. Molina, seconded by Mr. Denney and unanimously carried, minutes of the
July 10, 2023 Parks Board meeting were approved.
Upon motion of Ms. Molina, seconded by Mr. Denney, and unanimously carried, General Fund
Claims in the amount of $35,336.50, Non-Reverting Fund Claims in the amount of $47,199.17
for a total of $82,535.67 were approved.
Superintendent’s Report:
Marketing Manager Samantha Haville updated the board on concert ticket sales for Air
Supply, Taylor Swift Laser Dance Party and Scotty McCreery. Ms. Haville also updated
the board on the upcoming Art in the Park event to be held at Armstrong Park on
Tuesday August 1 from 6:0pm – 8:30pm.
Superintendent Laufman informed the board that the new playground at Armstrong Park
was shipping ahead of schedule and should be completed within the next six weeks. Ms.
Laufman stated that demo on the existing playground would be begin soon.
Director of Operations Miner reported on the recent thunderstorm that caused damage in
Columbian Park, mainly at Tropicanoe Cove. Mr. Miner stated the storm damaged
several pieces of IT equipment and potentially the PLC’s on the Mat Racer and Aqua
Loop slides. Mr. Miner also reported the storm had knocked down a fence at Crosser
Sports Complex and damaged roof shingles and the Family Farm Barn in the Columbian
Park Zoo.
Communications:
Mr. Denney complimented the aquatic staff at Tropicanoe Cove stating that during a
recent visit his family had made to the Cove, the guards and staff were very attentive, on
task and very pleasant.
Public: Greg Simpson of Lafayette, and Jackie Marshall, the Youth Development
Coordinator for the Bauer Family Resource Center addressed the board regarding the

need for a Skate Park in Lafayette. Mr. Simpson gave the board an update on a successful
Skate event held on July 16 at CAT Park wit approximately 300 skaters participating. Mr.
Simpson informed the board that he would be holding another skate event on August 20
at Crosser Sports Complex. Mr. Simpson stated that he had a change.org petition started
and had currently collected over 1,500 signatures. Ms. Marshall reported to the board that
there was potential grant funding for youth development that could be used for a Skate
Park project. President Metzger and the board thanked Mr. Simpson for his report.

by Ms. Molina, and unanimously carried, the meeting adjourned at 4:23 pm.
