REGULAR MEETING OF THE LAFAYETTE PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD 4:00 pm 14 August 2023 The City of Lafayette Parks and Recreation Board met in regular meeting at 4:00pm, August 14, 2023. The meeting was held at Rush Pavilion in Columbian Park. The meeting was called to order by Park Board President Matt Metzger. Board members present were Maurie Denney, Dave Mecklenburg and Siany Molina. Parks Superintendent Claudine Laufman, Parks Director of Operations Jon Miner and Recording Secretary Jenny Spencer were present. Parks staff members present were Mike Perry, Kurt Wolf, Neil Dale, Samantha Haville and Ashley Wulff. Upon motion by Mr. Mecklenburg, seconded by Ms. Molina and unanimously carried, minutes of the July 24, 2023, Parks Board meeting were approved. Upon motion of Mr. Denney, seconded by Mr. Mecklenburg, and unanimously carried, General Fund Claims in the amount of $121,098.24, Non-Reverting Fund Claims in the amount of $37,175.14 for a total of $158,273.38 were approved. Superintendent’s Report:  Marketing Manager Haville began the Superintendent’s report by providing details on the final Art in the Park of the summer at Armstrong Park. There were over six hundred in attendance, thanks in part to a beautiful summer evening.  Pooch Plunge was held this past Thursday and Friday (8/9, 8/10) at Armstrong Park from 5pm – 8pm each evening with almost three hundred dogs in attendance in total.  The Scotty McCreery concert at Loeb Stadium on Aug. 17th has sold 2,095 tickets.  Fall Movie Night is being planned for Friday, October 13 with a showing of Monsters, Inc. More details to come.  Director of Operations Miner provided an aquatics update with Vinton and Castaway closed for the season. Castaway Bay had 62 operational days versus 65 last year. Vinton had 66 operational days. Tropicanoe Cove has seven remaining days in operation. There have been five weather closings to date. The Franciscan Health Picnic is Sat. August 26th. They have 3,900 people signed up.  Zoo hours have been scaled back to Fall operational hours. Pedal Boats are operating on weekends only. Park Board Minutes 8/14/2023 Page 1  Project Updates - The McCaw Park has seen intermittent progress around rain. Mike’s team has been working on sculpting the dog park paddock areas. - Armstrong Park – Laser grading and fence work around baseball fields is progressing. Will be moving to tennis courts for fencing and surfacing next. The new playground at Armstrong is turnkey. - Munger Park playground is wrapping up over the next couple of weeks. Upon motion by Mr. Denney, seconded by Ms. Molina and unanimously carried, the Declaration of Surplus Property was approved. (Attachment A) Communications:  Board: Mr. Metzger complimented the crew working Crosser Sports Complex.
