City Commission Workshop Meeting Minutes November 14, 2024 (APPROVED) 11/14/2024 - Minutes 1. CALL TO ORDER & ROLL CALL Commission Members Present: Mayor Jack Hilligoss, Robin Gibson, Daniel Williams, Keith Thompson, Carol Gillespie Staff Present: James Slaton, City Manager; Jennifer Nanek, City Clerk; Deena Drumgo, Assistant City Manager The meeting began at approximately 12:00 p.m. 2. Tour Of Facility Jessica Bray, Lake Wales Womans Club, gave the Commission some back ground on the building. She shared materials with the Commission including pictures and the work that was done. Ms. Bray said the Woman's club building was built in 1939 on property bought from the City. If the club disbands the City gets the property back. So the City has an interest in helping keep the building up. This is a good partnership. Most of the interior still looks how it was built. She reviewed the ceiling and insulation. Commissioner Gillespie asked when the work was done. Ms. Bray said this past June, it took five weeks. They had to block out the time and not have rentals. Ms. Bray said mold had to be addressed in the exterior wall, ceiling and storage room. These areas had to be cleaned and treated. The drop ceiling in the bathroom had to be cleaned and treated. Ms. Bray took the commission members into the kitchen area. Lot of the floor had mold and fixed. A handyman did some of the work rather than the contractor. There were places where there was water damage. She showed where some work was done. Deputy Mayor Gibson asked if they were closed down. Ms. Bray said it took about 5 weeks. They found some plumbing problems as they did the work. After the tour the Commission was invited to share lunch with members of the Woman's Club. 3. CITY COMMISSION AND MAYOR COMMENTS 4.
