COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES
CITY OF LAWRENCEBURG
May 28, 2020
The Board of Mayor and Council met in regular session. The meeting was held by teleconference.
The following members were present: Council Member Fox, Mayor Lay, Council Member Robin
Williams, Council Member Sevier and Council Member Moore.
With a quorum present the meeting was called to order. The meeting opened with Prayer and the
Pledge of Allegiance.
Motion to approve the minutes of the May 14, 2020 Council Meeting was made by Council Member
Moore, with a second by Council Member Fox. Motion passed unanimously.
Motion to approve the Special Called Meeting on May 21.2020 was made by Council Member Moore,
with a second by Council Member Sevier.

ORDINANCE NO. 1288
AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE NO.1275 ENTITLED BUDGET APPROPRIATIONS
OF REVENUE AND EXPENDITURES FOR THE 2019-2020 FISCAL YEAR FOR THE CITY OF
LAWRENCEBURG, TENNESSEE GENERAL DEPARTMENT. First Reading
Motion to approve was made by Council Member Moore, with a second by Council Member Fox.
Motion passed unanimously.

2020-28-5B A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
LAWRENCEBURG, TENNESSEE TO CHANGE THE NAME JOHNS ALLEY TO JETER ALLEY
Mayor Lay read into the minutes the below concerning Michael Jeter:
WHEREAS, Michael Jeter was born in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, on August 26, 1952; and
WHEREAS, Michael grew up in Lawrenceburg; one of six children born to Dr. William Claud
Jeter, a dentist, and his wife, Virginia; and
WHEREAS, Michael was a student at Memphis State University (now the University of
Memphis) when his interest turned from medicine to acting; and
WHEREAS, Michael left Tennessee to pursue his stage career in Baltimore, Maryland. He won
a Tony Award in 1990 for his performance in the Broadway musical Grand Hotel and an Emmy Award
in 1992 for his role in the television sitcom Evening Shade. He also won an Outer Critics Circle
Award, a Drama Desk Award, and the Clarence Derwent Prize, as well as being nominated for many
others; and
WHEREAS, his acting career began in 1979 in movies, on stage, and on television. Michael’s
outstanding career was much the pride of Lawrenceburg and Lawrence County. The untimely death of
Michael in 2003 left his family, friends, and fans, as well our community, saddened with the loss of
him and the beloved characters he portrayed.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, the City of Lawrenceburg celebrates the life and career
of a hometown boy that shined among the stars of Hollywood, and citizens delighted knowing he was
from Lawrenceburg. We take pride in the accomplishments of Michael Jeter and wish to
commemorate him throughout Lawrenceburg and Lawrence County as one of our own.
Motion to approve the name change was made by Council Member Sevier, with a second by Council
Member Fox. Motion passed unanimously.

OF LAWRENCEBURG, TENNESSEE, TO AMEND RESOLUTION NO. 2017-22-11B;
RESOLUTION NO. 2017-10-5A; RESOLUTION NO. 2015-12-11E; RESOLUTION NO. 2012-27-
12; RESOLUTION NO. 2011-22-12A; BEING SALARY SUPPLEMENT RESOLUTIONS FOR
CITY OF LAWRENCEBURG EMPLOYEES
Motion to approve was made by Council Member Fox, with a second by Council Member Moore.

2020-28-5D A RESOLUTION FOR THE BOARD OF MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF LAWRENCEBURG, TENNESSEE, TO AMEND RESOLUTION NUMBER 2019-22-8A TO
APPROVE THE PURCHASE OF SIXTEEN 2020 CHEVROLET TAHOE VEHICLES FROM
WILSON COUNTY MOTORS FOR THE LAWRENCEBURG POLICE DEPARTMENT
THROUGH THE STATE BID CONTRACT NUMBER SWC209 AND TO IMPLEMENT A ROLL-
OUT PLAN BEGINNING IN 2023
Motion to approve was made by Council Member Moore, with a second by Council Member Fox.

2020-28-5E A RESOLUTION TO AMEND RESOLUTION 2020-23-4H FOR THE BOARD OF
MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAWRENCEBURG, TENNESSEE TO AUTHORIZE
CHRIS SHAFFER, CITY ADMINISTRATOR, TO NEGOTIATE AND ENTER INTO A
CONTRACT FOR VERIZON CELL TO PLACE AN ANTENNA ON A SUITABLE SELF
SUPPORT TOWER LOCATED AT EITHER POLICE OR FIRE DEPARTMENT
Motion to approve was made by Council Member Williams, with a second by Council Member Sevier.
