COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES CITY OF LAWRENCEBURG May 9, 2024 The Board of Mayor and Council met in regular session. The following members were present: Council Member Sevier, Council Member Story, and Council Member Williams. Mayor Lay and Council Member Moore were absent. With a quorum present Vice Mayor Williams called the meeting to order. The meeting opened with Prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. Motion to approve the April 25, 2024 minutes was made by Council Member Story with a second by Council Member Sevier. Motion passed. There was no one signed in to speak concerning the agenda. LUS Financials were accepted. Father Andrew Forsythe with Sacred Heart School presented sever members of Law Enforcement with awards for their efforts helping the school get a grant for the school and church security, by doing a threat assessment. Capt. Blake Grooms and Highway Patrol Officer Brent Oliver received Police Cross, while Lt. Lori Bradford, Pt. Officer Kim Barker and Pt. Mickey Glover received a letter of accommodation from the Diocese of Nashville. Fire Chief, Jay Moore gave a report on when the Blessing Box will be ready to open, as well as an to Lawrenceburg Fire Department and EMA Personnel and other Emergency Responders from all across Lawrence County received the Star of Life Award, presented by the Children’s Emergency Care Alliance. Special notice was for the Grain Bin Rescue last November. Our firefighters as well as EMA is at a residential structure fire on Morgan Road as we meet. Lawrenceburg and Lawrence County received some property damage from last evening’s storms, and we sent men to Columbia and Sumner County to assist with the storms as well as the flooding. Police Chief, Terry Beecham, introduced Lt. McNeal our Motorcycle Officer and informed the Council of his participation in a motorcycle training and contest with 70 other riders from across the U.S. as well as Canada. Officer McNeal won the Man of the Week Trophy at this training for his skills on the motorcycle. He has also reduced the accidents in Lawrenceburg by 20-25%. He is a busy man. ORDINANCE(S) ORDINANCE NO. 1400 AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE NO.1366 ENTITLED BUDGET APPROPRIATIONS OF REVENUE AND EXPENDITURES FOR THE 2023-2024 FISCAL YEAR FOR THE CITY OF LAWRENCEBURG, TENNESSEE GENERAL FUND Second Reading Motion to approve on second reading was made by Council Member Story, with a second by Council Member Sevier. Motion passed unanimously. RESOLUTION(S) A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAWRENCEBURG, TENNESSEE TO ENTER INTO A CONTRACT WITH CT CONSULTANTS FOR A PAVEMENT PLAN IN THE AMOUNT OF $35,400 Motion to approve was made by Council Member Story, with a second by Council Member Sevier. Motion passed unanimously. A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAWRENCEBURG, TENNESSEE TO AUTHORIZE THE CITY OF LAWRENCEBURG TO APPLY FOR FEDERAL SURFACE TRANSPORTATION BLOCK GRANT FUNDS Motion to approve was made by Council Member Sevier, with a second by Council Member Story. Motion passed unanimously. A RESOLUTION FOR THE BOARD OF MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAWRENCEBURG, TENNESSEE TO ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH LAWRENCE COUNTY FOR ANIMAL SHELTER SERVICES Motion to approve was made by Council Member Story, with a second by Council Member Sevier. Motion passed unanimously. Public Works Director, thanked Veteran Marshall Bain for volunteering to pressure wash the sidewalks and curb around the monuments and pavilion on the square. We appreciate him, he did a really good job. Capt. Blake Grooms sent out a thank you to Tyler McDow for helping with the horse situation on cyclone corner. The trailer came off the hitch and had three houses inside. They were able to get two of the horses up and out, but one could not get up. He brought his big tow truck and got the one horse up that had given up and was about to die. He saved that horses life and did not charge anyone anything and he does that sort of thing all the time. With no other business to come before the Board a motion was made by Council Member Sevier to adjourn with a second by Council Member Story. Motion passed. _____________________ City Recorder
