Mayor and Council Salaries Chief Financial Officer Keith Lee presented this item and answered questions from Council. Motion to approve an ordinance to increase the salaries of the Mayor and Council Members, made by Council Member Martin, Seconded by Mayor Pro Tem Thompson. Still, Mayor ________________________ Karen Pierce, City Clerk  ORDINANCE ADM-ORD-2023-4 AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING AN INCREASE IN THE SALARIES FOR THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL MEMBERS OF THE CITY OF LAWRENCEVILLE WHEREAS, the City Council as the governing authority of the City of Lawrenceville is authorized by O.C.G.A. § 36-35-4 to increase the salaries of its municipal governing authority in accordance with certain conditions; and WHEREAS, the governing authority of the City of Lawrenceville caused notice of intent to consider an increase in the compensation of elective members of the governing authority to be published in the Gwinnett Daily Post once a week for three consecutive weeks immediately preceding the week during which this ordinance was adopted; and WHEREAS, the governing authority of the City of Lawrenceville desires to increase the salaries of the future Mayor and Council Members to adequately compensate them for the work incident to these offices and to attract qualified candidates to run for such offices; and WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Lawrenceville deem such action to be in the best interests of the general welfare of the City of Lawrenceville and its inhabitants; The City Council of the City of Lawrenceville hereby ordains as follows : Section 1. The annual salaries of the Mayor and Council Members of the City of Lawrenceville are hereby set as follows: (a) Mayor: $ 20,000 (b) Council Member: $ 12,600 Section 2. All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby expressly repealed. [Remainder of Page Intentionally Left Blank] Section 3. The effective date of this Ordinance shall be the date of the taking of office (January 1, 2024) of those elected at the next regular municipal election, which is held immediately following the date on which the action to increase the compensation was taken {August 16, 2023) .
