Finalization of the survey on the sites: Gwinnett Co. is doing a phase I test; city has turned
over asbestos and land studies, leading up to an April 1st closing with Gwinnett County
City is taking ownership of the detention pond located behind Hooper-Renwick facility;
the detention pond facility will be owned by the city, the actual site will be owned by the
county
Commissioner Fosque has extended an invitation to the HRLPC to come and give an
update in April on where the county stands at this point in the process/progress of the
Hooper-Renwick Project, since at this time the county will have acquired ownership of the
Hooper-Renwick Facility and will have staff in place.
Interests regarding fund-raising, particularly from the Gwinnett Library Foundation board
and others. Chuck has asked all interested parties to please suspend their efforts and
interests on fund raising until after the county takes ownership and finishes its conceptual
plan, at which time fund raising would be more logical. The goal of $3 - 5 Million was
discussed to enhance the facility and the exhibits.
Chair Bailey put it to the floor as to whether the committee wanted to accept the
Commissioner’s invitation to come to us and give an update on the Hooper-Renwick
Project. After some discussion the motion below was made.
