Hooper-Renwick Minutes Hooper-Renwick Legacy Preservation Committee Meeting MINUTES DATE: Tuesday, April 20, 2021 6:00 p.m. GJAC – Old Jury Room Call to Order Chair Theresa Bailey called the meeting to order at 6:06 pm. PRESENT Committee Member Theresa Bailey Committee Member Rory Johnson Committee Member Constance Brown Committee Member John Maxey Committee Member Marlene Taylor-Crawford Committee Member Joyce Moore Committee Member Vivian Summerour Daniel Committee Member Rubye Neal Committee Member Ronald Dunnigan Committee Member Gwen Taylor Committee Member Gary Glenn ABSENT Committee Member Gregory Lott Others in attendance were City Manager Chuck Warbington, Mayor David Still, Council Members: Mayor Pro Tempore Victoria Jones and Glenn Martin. Also present were Commissioner Marlene Fosque, Program Manager Cris Gray and Gwinnett County Library Foundation Members: Charles Pace and Jason DiFranco. Other attendees included, Gwinnett County Project Team consisting of Angelia Parham, David Mogge, Tina Fleming, and Chad Alexander. Present also were Design Team members Terry Healy of Healy-Kohler Design Corp. and Kalie Downs. And finally, Velma Fann and Marybeth Reid, Historians from New South Associates, were also in attendance. Prayer – Dr. Ronald Dunnigan Committee Member Dunnigan led the opening prayer. Overview This meeting was made up of those individuals who are involved in formulating a plan and arriving at a design for the Hooper-Renwick Library/Museum project. The exhibit Design Team made several presentations from their repertoire of their body of work. This sparked a great deal of interest and discussion. The Design Team emphasized that this was only given to help the Committee Members to visualize the possibilities for the Hooper-Renwick Library/Museum. Commissioner Fosque introduced Cris Gray, Program Manager with the Gwinnett County Facility Construction Division. He will be managing the project through the design and construction phases and see it through its completion. Mr. Gray introduced the Historians, Ms. Fann and Ms. Reid from New South Associates. Ms. Fann requested that the Committee members identify 12 people from Hooper-Renwick and the Community who would consent to participate in capturing an oral history. Ms. Fann distributed a sample questionnaire that she will use to guide the interviews. She requested that we provide the names and their contact information to her no later than May 11, 2021. She indicated that she would like to begin the interviews no later than the end of May through the end of June 2021. When asked about the construction completion date, Mr. Gray estimated that 1st quarter 2023 would most likely be the opening date. Commissioner Fosque also added that an official ground-breaking would be conducted at the appropriate time and we would all be invited. Committee Member Rubye Neal shared a story of Black History regarding Morris Brown College, Atlanta, Georgia. Committee Member Dunnigan gave the closing prayer. Chair Bailey adjourned the meeting at 7:35pm.
