Meeting Agenda Minutes April 4, 2023 Keep League City Beautiful Citizen Committee 6:00 PM The meeting was called to order at 6:01 PM by Beth Sears. Present were Jason Makepeace, Nina Makepeace, Richard Williams, Frank Zgonc, Beth Sears, Lisette McClung, and Dave Bowman. Also present for the meeting were City Librarian Teresa Potter, Parks Coordinator John Orsag, and Manager of Community Engagement and Special Projects Amber Pedigo. John Orsag introduced the group to Amber Pedigo. She gave a quick rundown about her background. Amber is currently working on a community engagement site that will be called ‘League City Listens.’ Orsag then introduced the group to Teresa Potter. She came to tell the Committee about the Library Jazz and Wine Live Event that will take place on April 14, from 6:30 - 8 PM. The event is sponsored by the Helen Hall Library as well as the Galveston Brewing Company and will feature a live Jazz band. This will be a free event for individuals twenty-one and up. Teresa informed the group that $1,500 of Art Funds will be used to pay for the band. Orsag asked the group to consider and take action on criteria for requests for Art on City facilities. Teresa Potter added that an example of one of these types of requests came from a citizen wanting to add railroad tracks on the short wall next to the Library. Another example was a recent request from a local Girl Scout Troop who would like to paint artwork on trash cans in a City Park. The group then discussed ideas on how this process could occur and came up with some general criteria to follow. A motion was then made by Nina Makepeace to let the Girl Scout Troop paint the trash cans as long as they provide a sketch for review, research the best paint to use, and supply their own paint to complete the project. The motion was seconded by Jason Makepeace. All were in favor of the motion, and it carried. Orsag and Potter then updated the group on the upcoming Wings Along the Water Event that will take place at Heritage Park on Saturday, May 13, from 4 - 10 PM. The event will feature bird talks, food trucks, kayak rentals, and a movie related to birds. The Committee was then updated on the White Linen Night Event from Richard Williams and Frank Zgonc. They stated that invitations had been sent out to Artists and that they were trying to secure CCISD buses to shuttle people to and from the event site. Also, the t-shirt logo was being finalized for the 1,000 shirts that will be available for White Linen Nights. Orsag then updated the Committee on the theme and date for the upcoming Art Gallery titled the ‘Art of Paper.’ The opening reception will be held at the Civic Center on Friday, May 26. The group then discussed ways that the paper art could be displayed and hung from the ceiling. Frank Zgonc gave an update on the League City Patrons of the Parks and Arts Foundation. He stated that officer elections were completed and that the group is working on the transfer of documents from the City to the Foundation. The Foundation was also working with the bank to get the new officers on the account and the first big project for them would be a membership drive. The meeting was adjourned at 7:13 PM.
