Community Engagement Workshop
Minutes April 19th, 2023 – 6:00 PM
CALL TO ORDER:
The meeting of the Community Engagement Commission was called to order on April 19th, 2023, at 6:00 PM.

APPROVALS:
Commissioner Asmus motioned to excuse Commissioner Bekkedahl from this meeting. The motion was seconded
by Commissioner Saba, which then carried unanimously.
Commissioner Saba motioned to approve the March 15th meeting minutes. Due to audio difficulties, it was unclear
who seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously.
CITIZEN COMMENTS:
No citizen comments were made at this meeting.
DISCUSSIONS
Mailer Card Proposal
The commission briefly discussed the mailer card proposal. Again, due to audio difficulties, it was not clear what
the specifics of the discussion were. No formal decisions or votes were made on this subject.
Alternative Local Name for ZenCity
David Goehner clarified that the name cannot be changed from ZenCity in relation to the City, however there may
be other ways to specify or personalize the advertisement for the software to the community. The commission
briefly discussed possible options and names. Due to continued audio difficulties, specifics could not be deter-
mined.
Virtual Tokens/ Coins Proposal
Public funds cannot be used to endorse businesses, as David Goehner explained to the commission, which would
prevent a token or coin being used in affiliation with the City, or its commissions, towards businesses and services.
The commission further discussed QR codes and other methods of engagement.
Farmers Market Start Date
Attendance was discussed, as the next meeting in May is just three days before the opening date, May 20th. Com-
missioners discussed who would attend the first few Market dates.
CITY HALL UPDATES:
David Goehner went over City related updates. He discussed highlights from the previous night’s Council Meeting,
as well as the ongoing discussion in relation to the Library Board. He finished by discussing the first survey and
questions from the new ZenCity software. This survey will be advertised and available via iPad at the Farmers
Market opening day. Mark McAvoy weighed in regarding aspects of the survey such as the topics, and possibly
repetitive questions that he recommended be edited where applicable.

The purpose of the Community Engagement Commission is to serve in an advisory capacity
to the mayor and City Council. The Commission’s role is to gather ideas, input, and
feedback from community members, and to advise and guide city leadership.
Under Governor Inslee’s “Washington Ready” plan, members of the public may attend
meetings in person at City Hall at the address provided above, or via Zoom at the link
below. Members of the public will be allowed to comment in-person or via Zoom as
described on the last page of this agenda.

• Submit written public comment prior to 4:00 p.m. on April 19, 2023.
