CITY OF LONG BEACH THURSDAY, MAY 9, 2019 CITIZENS' ADVISORY SECOND THURSDAY, CITY COUNCIL COMMISSION ON CHAMBER, DISABILITIES MINUTES 333 W. OCEAN BOULEVARD, 1:00 PM Deaka McClain, Chair Sherry Diamond, Member Nubia Flores Cedeno, Secretary Connie Gutierrez, Member Alice Bruns, Member Chris Karadjov, Member Ciara Calsita, Member Jamone Pili, Member CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by Chair McClain at 1:05 pm. ROLL CALL There was a lack of a quorum for this meeting. The commission moved forward with the presentation and public comment but did not hear any action items. These items will be added to the June 13, 2019 meeting. Commissioners Alice Bruns, Sherry Diamond, Nubia Flores Cedeno and Deaka Present: McClain Commissioners Ciara Calsita, Connie Gutierrez, Chris Karadjov and Jamone Pili Absent: FLAG SALUTE The flag salute was led by Commissioner Bruns. PUBLIC PARTICIPATION Faye Norman, Executive Director of The Empowerment Network, introduced herself and her organization to the commission. Mrs. Norman will be making a formal presentation to CACoD on July 11, 2019. Frances Emily Dawson Harris, CD1 resident, spoke about the upcoming Disabled Resources Annual Dinner and the upcoming Blue Whale Gala held by the Aquarium of the Pacific. Ms. Harris will be attending both and encouraged the public to attend and support. Andrew Utt, Head of Engagement & Community Strategy with Aira, and Bala Sista, VP of Business Engineering with Aira, presented information and answered questions about the services offered by Aira. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES 1. 19-014CA Recommendation to approve minutes from the April 11, 2019 meeting of the Citizen's Advisory Commission on Disabilities. This CA-Agenda Item was laid over. STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS 2. 19-015CA Recommendation to receive and file monthly report by the Youth, Employment & Programs standing committee or adopt any recommendations this committee would like to make. This CA-Agenda Item was laid over. 3. 19-016CA Recommendation to receive and file monthly report by the Accessibility, Transportation & Services standing committee or adopt any recommendations this committee would like to make. This CA-Agenda Item was laid over. This CA-Agenda Item was laid over. 5. 19-018CA Recommendation to discuss any recommendations this commission would like to the city manager regarding the City's Economic Blueprint shared last month by John Keisler, Director of Economic Development. This CA-Agenda Item was laid over.
