ROLL CALL Commissioners Karen L. Highberger, Irma Hernandez, Louise Ivers, Jan Robert Present: van Dijs and Alan Burks Commissioners Shannon Carmack Absent: ALSO PRESENT: Steve Gerhardt, Acting Planning Officer; Craig Chalfant, Project Planner; and Thelinjoris Manuel, Clerk Typist III. FLAG SALUTE Commissioner Van Dijs led in the flag salute. MINUTES 14-003CH Recommendation to approve the Minutes of the Cultural Heritage Commission meetings held December 9, 2013 and January 13, 2014. A motion was made by Commissioner Hernandez, seconded by Vice Chair Highberger, to approve the recommendation. The motion carried by the following vote: Yes: 5 - Louise Ivers, Karen L. REGULAR AGENDA (1) 1. 14-002CH Recommendation to approve a Certificate of Appropriateness request for exterior modifications to the roof of a historic landmark (Long Beach Professional Building), located at 117 E. 8th Street, for a secured walking area with outdoor furniture and rooftop gardens. A motion was made by Commissioner Hernandez, seconded by Commissioner Ivers, to approve the recommendation. The motion carried by the following vote: Yes: 6 - Shannon Carmack, Louise Ivers, Karen L. Highberger, Irma Hernandez, Jan Robert van Dijs and Alan Burks STUDY SESSION - The Meeker-Baker Building The Study Session was moved to a future meeting. Steve Gerhardt, Acting Planning Officer, spoke. COMMENTS FROM THE CULTURAL HERITAGE COMMISSIONERS Commissioner Ivers spoke. Steve Gerhardt, Acting Planning Officer, spoke. Commissioner Ivers made a motion recommending the Commission, at a future meeting, create a City landmark status for the donut sign at 5590 E. 7th Street. Commissioner Carmack seconded the motion made by Commissioner Ivers. Commissioner Van Dijs spoke and a dialogue ensued with Commissioner Ivers.
