CALL TO ORDER
The Parks and Recreation Commission meeting was called to order by President
Goldberg at 9:05 a.m., at the El Dorado Senior Center Library. Director Marie Knight took
the roll call and confirmed a quorum.

Employee of the Month - Michelle Wilson introduced Kelly Armstrong from the Marine
Bureau, Queensway Bay/Beach Maintenance Division.
Kelly introduced Jeff King as the April 2017 Employee of the Month. Jeff demonstrates
his pride for maintenance of the Queensway Bay/Rainbow Harbor area every day. Jeff is
an awesome example to his team and ensures the Shoreline area looks beautiful for our
many visitors to the downtown area during special events and throughout the year.

1. 17-025PR Recommendation to approve the Parks & Recreation Commission
Meeting minutes of April 20, 2017.
A motion was made by Vice President Heggeness, seconded by

documents necessary to issue a non-exclusive Permit to St. Anthony
High School for use of Gumbiner Park for school-approved activities, for
a term of three-years, with two, two-year renewal options at the
discretion of the Director. (District 1)

item as he is a board member of St. Anthony High School. Commissioner
Zanatta left the dias to sit with the audience.

5. 17-029PR Authorize the Director of Parks, Recreation and Marine to enter into a
permit with Long Beach Little League, Inc. for the continued use of a
City-owned parking lot at Stearns Champions Park, currently leased to
the Advocacy for Respect and Choice-Long Beach, Inc., a California
non-profit corporation, for a three-year permit term, with one, two-year
renewal option at the discretion of the Director.

Lucy Johnson spoke regarding pools within the City, including LBUSD and joint use.
STAFF COMMENTS:
Meredith Reynolds reported the the Drake/Chavez Greenbelt project is moving towards
completion. The projects at Admiral Kidd and Seaside Parks are also in the works.
Gladys Kaiser reported on upcoming summer events including the May 26th Summer
Kick Off Concert at Marine Stadium.
COMMISSIONER COMMENTS:
Commissioner Zanatta introduced Mark Hardison, retired City of Hawthorne Parks
Department and member of the Partners of Parks Board of Directors.
Commissioner Sievers commented that the El Dorado Nature Center Entryway
Dedication Ceremony was great. He also encouraged everyone to attend the concert at
the Nature Center on June 29, 2017.
Opportunity is given to those members of the public who would like to address the Parks
and Recreation Commission on non-agenda items. Each speaker is limited to three
minutes unless extended by the Parks and Recreation Commission. The Brown Act
prohibits Commissioners from responding to comments on non-agenda items.

The next Parks and Recreation Commission meeting will be held on Thursday, June 15,
2017, at the El Dorado Park West Community Center, Senior Center Library located at
