Human Relations and Equity Committee Meeting Madison Heights, Michigan October 11, 2023 A Human Relations and Equity Committee Meeting was held on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at 5:00 PM at Library - Breckenridge Room, 240 W. 13 Mile Rd. CALL TO ORDER Meeting was called to order at 5:08 pm by Hames. Motion by Rohrbach to have Murtaza chair the meeting. Seconded by Larry. All ayes, motion passes. ROLL CALL PRESENT Nickole Fox Alec Larry Syed Murtaza Council Representative Emily Rohrbach ABSENT Chair Paige Szymanski Rebecca Chambliss Colton Chambliss Motion by Murtaza to excuse Szymanski, Chambliss and Chambliss. Seconded by Rohrbach. All ayes, motion passes. Also present: Council Representative Alternate Quinn Wright Staff Liaison Heather Hames ADDITIONS/DELETIONS APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. Minutes of August 31, 2023 Motion by Rohrbach to approve minutes of August 31, 2023. Seconded by Fox. All ayes, motion passes. MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC No one present wishing to speak. NEW BUSINESS 2. Motorama and Smoke Event 1  Event is weather permitting. Monitoring the weather. 3. Cookbook Motion by Rohrbach to appoint Murtaza and Larry to the Cookbook Project sub- committee in order to promote the project in the community in order to collect a wider range of recipes and recruit additional volunteers as needed to work on the project with a goal of getting the cookbook to print by late fall 2024. Seconded by Larry. All ayes, motion passes. 4. Tree Lighting Event Motion by Rohrbach for the Human Relation and Equity Commission to have a presence at the Tree Lighting event on November 27, 2023, to collect recipes and have an additional activity yet to be determined. Seconded by Murtaza. All ayes, motion passes. 5. Automotive Hall of Fame Traveling Exhibit Motion by Rohrbach to table this item until the next meeting. Seconded by Fox. All ayes, motion passes. 6. Madison World Fair Motion by Rohrbach to have the Human Relations Equity Commission have a presence at Madison High School's World Fair program on November 16, 2023. Seconded by Larry. All ayes, motion passes. 7. MLK Event for 2024 Motion by Rohrbach to appoint Larry and Wright to a subcommittee to start planning an MLK event and service project for 2024. Seconded by Larry. All ayes, motion passes. 8. Plant Sale Recap Fox reported that the Native Plant Sale fundraiser went very well and raised $1,337.42 net profit. 9. Next HREC Meeting Hames will send out a doodle to determine the next meeting. ADJOURNMENT Meeting adjourned at 6:01 pm.
