Human Relations and Equity Committee Meeting Madison Heights, Michigan March 21, 2024 A Human Relations and Equity Committee Meeting was held on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at 6:00 PM at Library - Breckenridge Room, 240 W. 13 Mile Rd. CALL TO ORDER Yu called the meeting to order at 6:07 p.m. ROLL CALL PRESENT Aaron Brown Nickole Fox Jessica Showers Alec Yu Council Representative Quinn Wright Council Representative Alternate Emily Rohrbach Also present, Heather Hames, staff liaison EXCUSED ABSENT Chair Paige Szymanski Rebecca Chambliss Syed Murtaza-Rose Madison Student Delegate Colton Chambliss ADDITIONS/DELETIONS APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. Minutes of February 15, 2024 Motion to approve minutes of February 15, 2024 made by Wright, seconded by Yu. Motion passes unanimously. MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC No one present wishing to speak. 2. Calendar - Review Holidays for April Motion to create social media posts as detailed below and to share them with the City for posting or sharing online, made by Wright, seconded by Brown. Motion passes unanimously. Alec Yu will prepare social media posts for Trans Day of Visibility on March 31, 2024; World Autism Day on April 2, 2024; and for National Arab American Heritage Month for the month of April. 1  Heather Hames will prepare social media posts for Easter on March 31, 2024; Eid al- Fitr on April 10, 2024 and Passover on April 22-30, 2024. REPORTS OCBA MOCK TRIAL PROGRAM Motion to table until next meeting made by Showers, seconded by Yu. Motion passes unanimously. UNFINISHED BUSINESS 3. Zoning Topics Motion to table until next meeting by Showers, seconded by Yu. Motion passes unanimously. NEW BUSINESS Motion by Fox to explore a potential partnership between the Human Relations and Equity Commission and the Madison Heights Community Coalition, seconded by Yu. Motion passes unanimously.
