MEMBERS PRESENT Tom Swedenborg, Ty Cook, Jeff Mikula, George Becker, Mary Lou Mydill MEMBERS ABSENT Bill Gambill OTHERS PRESENT Kelly McColl, Marina Manger Katie Trivisonno APPROVAL OF AGENDA T MOTION by Jeff Mikula second by Tom Swedenborg, to approve the agenda as submitted. AF PUBLIC COMMENTS ON AGENDA ITEMS • None APPROVAL OF MINUTES D MOTION by Jeff Mikula, second by MaryLou Mydill, to approve the minutes for the January 27, 2023, meeting as presented. R OLD BUSINESS • Marina Marketing. ➢ Rack cards have been created – begun distributing. ➢ Joined the looper organization. ➢ $5,500 requested in proposed budget for FY 23-24. ➢ Tracking business to make sure impact is made. ➢ Great Lakes Cruising Club and Race to Mackinac trip back guide – join? Katie to look into. ➢ Dockage – anticipate 6 seasonals this year. REPORTS • Harbormaster – Marina Operations ➢ DPW employees laid brick pavers for patio – working on creating ADA compliant sidewalk ramp. Harbor Commission has worked towards this for 12 years. ➢ Trees trimmed on the Marina grounds. ➢ Docks have been adjusted down. ➢ Reservations continue to come in steady from the DNR reservation site. ➢ Boat launches are open – skid piers going in at First Street over the next two weeks. Harbor Commission Minutes – April 18, 2023 Page 1  ➢ Army Corps of Engineers rehab of the south break water has a few more working days until completion. ➢ First Street loop construction – concrete sidewalk and curb and gutter are planned for next week; paving will be as early as next week. ➢ Princess captain has had serious medical issues – owned with his sons, one is planning on taking over for the season. This was their first-year mooring along the seawall. ➢ Discussed piling caps and bumpers. ➢ Volunteer improvements continue – they’ve raised $7,500 so far. Jeff has asked them to work with Katie on this. ➢ Survey crew for the EDA grant started today. ➢ Discussed portable fire pit placements. • Boat Launch Revenue – reviewed preseason revenue - $2,800. NEW BUSINESS • Marina Commercial Slips along the Seawall ➢ Business owner approached City with request for seasonal space along the seawall to run T a short-term rental (boat) and a day trip rental boat. Consensus: Commissioners support this pilot project – want the owner to pay a 10% premium to run as it would increase Marina facility usage. AF ➢ Discussed cruise ships – Jeff to reach out to the Chamber and CVB about recruiting a cruise ship company. PUBLIC COMMENTS • None D COMMISSIONER COMMENTS • George Becker – do we utilize a courtesy dock? Yes, charge for a full day but usually allow R boaters dockage along the seawall if available for a quick visit (i.e. lunch). • MaryLou Mydill – spoke to Dockwa reservation service. Spoke to the Leland Marina Manager – they endorse the service. • Jeff Mikula – New concessionaire at First Street will offer paddle boards and kayaks for rent.
