Public Housing residents are to pay no more than 30% of their adjusted gross monthly income for housing, including utilities. Utility allowances compensate for the cost of utilities, ensuring the resident’s monthly housing costs are no more than 30% of their adjusted income. In most cases, the utility allowances reduce the resident’s monthly rental charge. However, the monthly rental rate sometimes is less than the monthly utility allowance. In those cases, CMHC sends the utility allowance payment directly to the utility provider in the resident’s name. Recommendation: Approve, as required by HUD. (b)), and WHEREAS, the City of Manistee Housing Commission is required to provide Tenants a 60-day written notice of the revision of Utility Allowances (Lease Part 1, Section VI (b)), and NOW, THEREFORE, on the motion of Commissioner , supported by Commissioner , and voted upon as follows, BE IT RESOLVED that the CMHC adopts the following resolution: NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED that the City of Manistee Housing Commission Board of Commissioners adopt the Utility Allowance rates as prepared.
