Call to Order and Roll Call The President of the Board of Commissioners shall call the meeting to order. The Commission Secretary/Executive Director will make a written record of the Commissioner’s attendance 2. Amendments to Agenda The President of the Board of Commissioners shall ask if there are any amendments to the agenda. 3. Public Comments on Agenda-Related Items The public comment section on agenda-related items is an opportunity for citizens to comment on agenda-related items only. The Board President shall recognize citizens in attendance for comments (limited to three minutes.) Letters submitted to the Housing Commission Board will not be read publicly. 4. Affordable homeownership frees families from the renting cycle, thus allowing them to foster the skills and confidence they need to invest in themselves and their communities. As communities grow, more affordable housing is needed. Moving a family into homeownership has many positive impacts on our community; including: • A strengthened tax base. • Improved and safer neighborhoods • Children that perform better in school • Families that spend more time together Other important housing opportunities include transitioning from subsidized rental to more self-sufficiency. Our Manistee County Habitat for Humanity is requesting that the City of Manistee Housing Commission either donate or sell at a very low cost two of the scattered site properties to our organization for the sole purpose of the development of affordable housing. The addresses are; • 343 Tenth Street ( Duplex, vacant,) • 1015 Concord Street ( Single Family Home, vacant) These properties are in the heart of a City of Manistee neighborhood and have been vacant for a very long time. This is a great opportunity for everyone involved. Our Habitat has the capacity to get this done in a timely manner. Currently, there are approximately 16 homes for sale in the County of Manistee and none of those homes are for area median income levels of 50% and below. We can start to move towards solving our housing crisis with collaboration like this. I would like to meet with the board in person and have further discussions about this affordable housing opportunity.
