CITY OF MANISTEE PARKS AND BEAUTIFICATION COMMISSION MINUTES Thursday, February 24, 2011 5: 15 P.M. Members Present: Mark Tomaszewski, John Rozga, Priscilla Rulison, Darci Scott, Ben Kubiak Members Absent: Lynne Reinhardt, Ed Teglar, Wendy Staffeld Also Present: Gary Niesen, Kathie Boyle, City of Manistee Jon Rose, Community Development Office A meeting of the Manistee Parks and Beautification Commission was held on Thursday, February 2nd 24, 2011 at City Hall — Floor Conference Room. Meeting was called to order by Vice- Chair Priscilla Rulison at 5: 15 p.m. OLD BUSINESS Spring Bus Tour—Priscilla Rulison suggested that the " Annual Parks Tour" be held during the Forest Festival, she had discussed this with the Chamber of Commerce and they were delighted to include this activity. Consensus of the commission to hold the bus tour on July 2, 2011 at 11: 00 a. m. Chamber will include tour in their brochure and Dial a Ride has been scheduled. NEW BUSINESS Jon Rose attended meeting to discuss the " Parks and Recreation Five Year Plan". Current plan extends thru 2012, we need to update and approve new plan. The major purpose of this plan will assist in writing grants for the city as grants will not be awarded to any community without this plan. Parks reviewed included Arthur Street Marina, Duffy Park, North Beach Access, Man Made Lake, North Riverwalk and Memorial Park. Arthur Street Marina: This site has been updated in recent construction and recommendations have been accomplished with the exception of a fish cleaning station not been added, also the extension of the marina with picnic areas and fishing docks is not behind Consumers Energy but has been added. Man Made Lake: This site has been updated in recent construction — Jon Rose provided the commission with a print of the updates made at this park ( see attached). Duffy Park: This site has been updated and recommendations have been accomplished with the exception of batting cages. North Beach Access: Still in need of benches and trash receptacles between parking lot and ramp. North Riverwalk and Memorial Park: This site is still in need a drinking fountain and picnic area with grills. Red Szymarek Park: This site needs to be revised. Mr. Rose advised members there is not a need to review First Street Beach or Fifth Avenue. The new beach plans for these parks have been approved by council. Members are encouraged to review the plan for further discussion. Consensus to adjourn. Next meeting date: Thursday, March 17, 2011 at 5: 15 p.m. at City 2n1 Hall— Floor Conference Room.
