PARKS AND BEAUTIFICATION COMMISSION
NOTES
Thursday, September 19, 2013
Call to Order: 5: 03 pm by Chair Reinhardt
Members Present: Ed Tegler, Lynne Reinhardt, Jane Schimke, Lynn Vasquez, Mark
Tomaszewski,
Members Excused: Roger Zielinski, Darci Scott, and Kathie Boyle (recording
secretary)
Also Present: Gary Niesen - City of Manistee
A regular meeting of the Manistee Parks and Beautiful Commission was held on
Thursday, September 19, 2013 at City Hall, 2 d floor conference room. Meeting was
called to order by Chair Reinhardt at 5: 03pm.
Approval of Minutes: Motion by Tegler, Second by Tomaszewski to accept the
minutes of August 15, 2013 and place on file. Motion carried.
Old Business:
By- Law Changes: Chair Reinhardt passed out copies of by- laws with the
suggested changes. Prepare to discuss and vote on the issue on October 17, 2013.
Adopt a Park: Further discussion on adopt a park. Ed Tegler was not impressed
with the info he got from Novi, MI. There was questions to whether or not City Council
has been working on an adopt a park program. Talk about setting up an adopt a park sub-
committee.
General Discussion:
Communication Path: Chair Reinhardt handed out copies of the current
communication path between P& B Commission, City Council and Citizen( s). Is this
working and being followed? Chair said this is something to think about. Chair asked
Lynn Vasquez to send copies of the flowchart to members of City Council.
Talked about having citizen fill out questionnaire or short survey type before/ after
they ask for the support of commission. This will allow the commission to have correct
spelling of name, address and phone number so we can do follow up. Ed Tegler had a
copy of criteria used when evaluating park projects. Lynn Vasquez will make copies and
bring to next meeting.
Motion by Schimke, Second by Tomaszewski to adjourn at 5: 53 pm. Motion
carried.

POST MEETING
Morton Park Visitation
Commission visited Morton Park, located on Third Street. Thoughts or comments
on what could improve this park were:
paint or replace basketball back board
kill weeds growing up on basketball court
new playground equipment
dog park added
walking/running track
trees added
replace gates on fence
add picnic tables, garbage cans
Questions: is there water hook up? What is in the shed? Survey the neighbors to
see what they want? Where is the money going to come from?
