CITY OF MANISTEE PARKS COMMISSION MINUTES Thursday, July 19, 2018 Members Present: Lani Rozga, Stephen Spencer, Erin Pontiac, Tom Swedenborg Members Excused: Frank Cardella, Mark Tomaszewski Also Present: Mickey McCann, Jeff Mikula, Ashlyn Kerienek A regular meeting of the Manistee Parks Commission was held on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at City Hall 2nd floor conference room. Meeting was called to order by Chair Erin Pontiac at 5:30 p.m. Approval of Agenda Motion by Swedenborg, second by Spencer to approve agenda. All in favor. Citizen/Public Comment None Approval of Minutes Motion by Rozga, second by Spencer to approve June 21, 2018 minutes. All in favor. Correspondence None Committee Reports None Old Business Outdoor Stage Mikula reports that the City Manager is trying to setup a committee meeting. Beach Safety/Accessibility A step is missing from a slide at First Street Beach. The slide is cornered off however no parts are available - the DPW is manufacturing a step. There are no AED’s at the beaches, but two will be placed there if and when they become available. The swim/boat buoys appear far out in the water but are in 8 ½’ of depth as usual. Tennis Court Grant Application Requirements for grant to resurface First Street Tennis Courts was submitted in July at a $60,000 cost ($45,000 grant and $15,000 local match). Manistee Area Public Schools will commit to $1,000 rent per year for the next five years, renewable year by year. We should have the answer to the application in September. New Business City Marina Mikula reports: twelve of the seventeen docks need replacing due to Seiche damage. The remaining five docks will be tested Locking Restrooms Mikula reports due to vandalism, the City Manager ordered the Police Department to lock the public rest rooms at 11:00 p.m. each evening. DPW is unlocking them at 7:00 a.m. each morning. Beach Vendors No problems are noted. One business owner operates both concession stands and is in his second year.
