MINUTES
Thursday, September 20, 2018
Members Present: Lani Rozga, Stephen Spencer, Erin Pontiac, Mark Tomaszewski, Kipp Pomranky
Members Excused: Tom Swedenborg, Frank Cardella
Also Present: Mickey McCann, Kathie Boyle
A regular meeting of the Manistee Parks Commission was held on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at City
Hall 2nd floor conference room. Meeting was called to order by Chair Erin Pontiac at 5:35 p.m.
Approval of Agenda
Motion by Rozga, second by Spencer to approve agenda. All in favor.
Citizen/Public Comment
Ted Arens was unable to attend tonight’s meeting. Boyle presented his application to “Adopt A Park” for
the Veterans Memorial Park. Members reviewed and approved application.
Approval of Minutes
Motion by Spencer, second by Rozga to approve August 16, 2018 minutes. All in favor.

Outdoor Stage
Jeff Mikula will give brief presentation at the next meeting he attends.
Beach Safety/Accessibility
Commission discussed possibly receiving an AED from the Fire Department when they
receive their new AED. Would like to place an AED and an Epi-Pen at each beach, storing the
emergency equipment behind each counter at the concession stands. Spencer will check with Fire
Department and Pomranky will check with Munson Manistee to possibly donate the emergency
equipment. Questions regarding liability were discussed. More information is needed.
Tennis Court Grant Application
The City received notification that we were unsuccessful. The City can reapply again in the future.
New Business
Annual Parks Tour
Per our by-laws and ordinance the Parks Commission is required to host an annual parks tour. We will
hold our tour on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at 5:00 p.m. This tour will be our October meeting. Please
meet on the Water Street side of City Hall.
Discussed
Process of grant writing
Pontiac was contacted by Jen Teller inquiring the status of Morton Park. The city is waiting on
response from MDEQ regarding our elimination of the City’s CSO.
Spencer inquired about applying for a grant to bring the bike path closer to the city limits.
possibly connecting the bike path from Burger King to Parkdale Wesco.
Holding a fund raiser for festivals such as a 3 on 3 hockey or broom ball tournaments for a winter
event. Could partner with the Teen Center with the Parks Commission heading up the event.
Parks Department has been noticing citizens putting their lawn debris in trash cans; creating
additional work for the department as they need to separate garbage from the lawn debris.
Motion by Rozga, second by Spencer to adjourn at 6:15 p.m. All in favor.
Next meeting date – Parks Commission Annual Parks Tour will be Thursday, October
25, 2018 @ 5:00 p.m. This will replace our October 18th meeting. Dial-A- Ride will
pick up members on the Water Street side of City Hall.
