City of Manistee Parks Commission Minutes April 21, 2022 Members Present: Karen Peltola, Kelly Greve, Tim O’Connor, Liz Laskey, Karin Maue Members Absent: Bob Brooks, Lani Rozga Present: Katie Trivisonno and Mickey McCann-City of Manistee A regular meeting of the Manistee Parks Commission was held on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at 5:30 pm at City Hall 3rd Floor Council chambers. Meeting was called to order by Chair Tim O’Connor at 5:36 pm Approval of Agenda-All in favor Public Comments-N/A Approval of Minutes-not approved Committee Reports-City of Manistee Park Rules, approval to move forward. Bylaws update. Kelly would like to find safer chemicals to use and present to City Council. Old Business-Priority list includes 1st street and Beach and 5th Avenue Beach. Mickey discussed tennis court removal. Tim would like to present a list to Mikula of how the Commission can help with parks. 1st street Beach basketball courts need new backboards and nets, need new markings and benches. Mickey mentioned anonymous donor would like to purchase the backboards and nets. Also, tetherball is in the works for 1st and 5th street beaches. Commission would like to identify areas of concern and present to City Council. Round Table Discussion- Lions Pavilion-Commission would like to power wash, sand paint pavilion, cabanas, and picnic tables. Commission discussed advertising a competition between 1st street beach volunteers vs 5th avenue beach. Community involvement. Morton Park-Tim discussed new shelter and picnic tables. The commission would like a proposal for new shelter. Update-Disc Golf, the city is working on the new park. Tim would like to be onsite when first pad is poured, would make a great news story! Lions Pavilion reservation system-not user friendly, cannot book online. Rental fees should go to Parks Commission. Everyone should pay to rent pavilion including nonprofit. New Business-Liz discussed land exchange agreement Sands Park. Approved and would like to move forward with proposal to City Council. Mickey mentioned new baskets at disc golf park and beach wheelchairs. Meeting Adjourned at 7:25
