PARKS COMMISSION MINUTES
MEETING OF June 16, 2022
A meeting of the Manistee Parks Commission was called to order by the Co-Chair on Thursday, June 16,
2022, at 5:30p.m. in the Council Chambers, City Hall, 70 Maple Street, Manistee MI 49660.
MEMBERS PRESENT
Kelly Greve, Lani Rozga, Karen Peltola, Karin Maue, Bob Brook, Liz Laskey
MEMBERS ABSENT
Tim O’Connor
OTHERS PRESENT
Katie Trivisonno, Chief Josh Glass, Mayor Lynda Beaton, Jen Teller
PUBLIC HEARING
Chief Jeff Glass discussed the new beach warning system. Swim Smart Warning beach lights have been
installed at First Street beach and 5th Avenue beach. Safety classes will be available to the
public/children to learn the new system.
APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Additions to Agenda include adding “View Shed” to New Business and moving Chief Glass to Public
Hearing. MOTION by Lani to approve the amended agenda, all in favor.
PUBLIC COMMENTS
Jen Teller discusses “View Shed Policy” and asks the Parks Commission for their support.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
MOTION by Lani to table minutes from May 19, 2022 meeting. Second by Liz, all in favor.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Lions Pavilion update-Day of serving, Picnic tables were painted but still 8 more to paint. Nighttime
lights are not working. Liz would like to arrange picnic tables. Can the portable restroom be changed out
for a more neutral color. Parking signs need adjusting. Kelly is working on Adirondack chair order.
NEW BUSINESS
“View Shed” Discussion. Lani would like to form a letter to support Jen Tellers request. Motion by Karen
M, Second by Bob to set new work date. Next work date is scheduled for June 22, 2022, at the Lions
Pavilion.
ROUND TABLE DISCUSSION
Lani discuses article about 9th street boat launch and DNR grants. Kelly wondered if the group should
meet every 2 weeks. Liz would like to add/discuss the Glen Arbor field trip to July agenda. She said the
trip was worthwhile. Karen M. asked for an update on Morton Park. Jeff Mikula is compiling a list of
equipment and working on budget. Bob mentioned the 5th Avenue tennis courts are in poor condition
and the nets have been installed, but there is sand on courts, safety hazard. Liz stated the Minger grant
is $5000/year and suggests they apply for the grant and use the funds for new fencing on baseball fields.

Next meeting is scheduled for July 21, 2022, at 5:30p.m. in the Council Chambers, City Hall, 70 Maple
Street, Manistee, Michigan.
