City of Manistee Parks Commission Minutes Thursday, June 15th, 5:30 pm Members Present John Veach, Kelly Greve, Liz Laskey, Tim O’Connor, Karen Peltola Members Absent Lani Rozga, Karin Maue Others Present Katie Trivisonno, Mickey McCann, City of Manistee A meeting of the Manistee Parks Commission was held on Thursday, June 15, 2023, at 5:30 at City Hall, 3rd Floor Council Chambers. The meeting was called to order by Chair Liz Laskey. Approval of Agenda Motion by Greve, second by O’Connor to approve agenda. All in favor. Approval of Minutes Motion by O’Connor, second by Peltola to approve May 18 minutes. All in favor. Correspondence Jen Teller, Adopt-a-Park ideas. Mayor Jermain Sullivan suggested stationary games at Sands Park Tennis Courts. Judy Ross, Lions Pavilion area, clean up shrubbery. Committee Reports Concession Stand 1st Street Beach-O’Connor gave update on new concessioner, Portage Point Rentals-Oasis Smoothies. Morton Park-Laskey would like to refurbish the existing playground equipment. Bylaws-Revised Bylaws were approved and are active. Disc Golf-Grand Opening was well attended. O’Connor provided diss and t shirts. Library Story Hours-Veach and Peltola attended Story hour event at Veterans Park. Amphitheater-Feasibility study, Request for Proposal has been advertised. Marina-Greve gave an update on the marina beautification project. Stargazing in the park-Event planned for June 23, 9:00 p.m. at 5th Street Beach. Grants-Basketball hoops installed, and court has been power washed and edged. New Business Basketball courts need grading. Old Business Marina public restroom doors are repaired and painted. Matching porta johns throughout the city parks. Round Table Peltola suggested planters at the Lions Pavilion. Veach discussed partnering with local school parks.
