MOTION CARRIED BY THE FOLLOWING VOTE: Yes: 4- Member Barber, Chair Boehner, Member O'Donnell and Member Scarpa ID 22-2437 Approval of the August 17 Meeting minutes Motion by member Barber, seconded by member Scarpa, to approve July 20, 2022 and August 17, Meeting minutes. MOTION CARRIED BY THE FOLLOWING VOTE: Yes: 4- Member Barber, Chair Boehner, Member O'Donnell and Member Scarpa (6) STAFF COMMUNICATIONS Marco Island Police Chief Tracy Frazzano and Community Service Officer Keith Richter answered some questions the committee members had regarding some code enforcement issues in Marco Island. Chair Boehner questioned whether a separate unit of Code Enforcement may be created to respond only to environmental issues. Brad Cornell with Audubon Western Everglades suggested some ideas to improve the protection and enforcement of the species protection ordinance. (7) PUBLIC COMMENT (TIME CERTAIN 9:30 A.M.) Brittany Piersma Field Biologist at Audubon Western Everglades addressed the committee members regarding a sawfish issue on the Tigertail lagoon. City of Marco Island Florida Page 1 Beach and Coastal Resources Meeting Minutes - Final September 21, 2022 Advisory Committee (8) PRESENTATIONS (9) OLD BUSINESS (10) NEW BUSINESS Committee members would like Beach patrol to attend every meeting to present any information or violation updates at the beach. Gopher tortoise native plants Committee members discussed Gopher tortoise native plants. Committee members would like to start a Gopher tortoise program. Chair Boehner mentioned that part of the program will consist in using native plants to lure tortoises to homeowners’ properties who are interested in creating a habitat for them. Rodenticide Committee members discussed the use of rodenticide. Committee members do not agree with the use of rodenticide due to animals and pets getting exposed. Locations for Gopher Tortoise & Low Flying Owl signs Committee members discussed the locations for Gopher Tortoise & Low Flying Owl signs. There was a discussion regarding flashing light signs. Members will gather more information on the signs and revisit the discussion at the next Committee meeting. Motion by member scarpa, seconded by member Barber, to approve buying two Owl signs and eight Tortoise signs and install them on locations recommended by Audubon Western Everglades. Window decals Committee members thanked former Vice Chair Eastmen for his time and effort he put into the Beach and Costal Resources Advisory Committee. (11) COMMITTEE COMMUNICATIONS Member Scarpa shared some information on his meeting with the City Manager regarding the fertilizer Ordinance. Member Barber had questions regarding the Live Shelling sign.
