She mentioned that the existing Ordinance is not a proper Ordinance and conflicts with state law. (7) PUBLIC COMMENT (TIME CERTAIN 9:30 A.M..) None. (8) PRESENTATIONS ID 23-2697 Audubon of the Western Everglades Annual Recap Brittany Piersma with Audubon of the Western Everglades presented a quarterly season update on the Owl Watch, Shorebird Stewardship, and Gopher Tortoise program. (9) OLD BUSINESS Gopher Tortoise thermal-plastic pavement marking signs City of Marco Island Florida Page 1 Beach and Coastal Resources Meeting Minutes - Final January 18, 2023 Advisory Committee Kathryn Grigsby updated the Committee members on Gopher Tortoise thermal-plastic pavement marking signs. Gopher Tortoise flashing roadway signs Kathryn Grigsby updated the Committee members on Gopher Tortoise flashing roadway signs. There was a discussion regarding installation costs. Gopher Tortoise flyers for contractors Committee Members discussed Gopher Tortoise flyers for contractors. There was a discussion regarding putting flyers in permit boxes on construction sites for all contractors. MOTION by Chair Boehner, seconded by Member , to approve putting Gopher Tortoise flyers for contractors in construction permit box. MOTION CARRIED BY THE FOLLOWING VOTE: PSA announcement on social media regarding gopher tortoise awareness Committee members discussed adding a PSA announcement regarding gopher tortoise awareness on the City of Marco Island's social media. Gopher Tortoise starter burrow program Lindsay Boehner mentioned she was still working on theGopher Tortoise starter burrow program. Window clings/decals for sea turtle lighting (draft design) Chair Boehner mentioned she wanted to keep this item on the agenda for further discussion. Live Shelling sign locations There was a discussion regarding Live Shelling sign locations. It was mentioned that it is still pending an Ordinance clarification so it will be added on the next meeting agenda. Rodenticide usage and/or elimination Committee members discussed revising the ordinance to amend Rodenticide usage and/or elimination. MOTION by member Scarpa seconded by Chair Boener, to draft a presentation for City Council with suggested language and location for an amendment to ban Rodenticide usage. MOTION CARRIED BY THE FOLLOWING VOTE: Present: 4- Member Barber, Chair Boehner, Member O'Donnell and Member Ryan Not Present: 1- Member Stephenson Volunteer Beach Stewardship City of Marco Island Florida Page 2 Beach and Coastal Resources Meeting Minutes - Final January 18, 2023 Advisory Committee Committee members discussed adding more Volunteers to the Beach Stewardship program. BchCRAC T-shirt sponsors Committee members are still working on getting T-shirts sponsors. Funding outside projects Committee members discussed funding outside projects with any unused funds at the end of the fiscal year. (10) NEW BUSINESS Beach Clean-up updates Committee members discussed beach clean-up dates. MOTION by members Barber, Seconded By member Scarpa, to add Marco Island Rotary Beach Cleanup for February 24. MOTION CARRIED BY THE FOLLOWING VOTE: Co-sponsor Beach Clean-up request by Marco Island Rotary Club 1/28 or 2/24 Budget Committee members discussed their remaining budget and what has been spent so far. (11) NEXT MEETING: CONFIRMATION & ATTENDANCE Next Committee meeting will be on February 15th, 2023. All present members of the Committee indicated their intention to be present for the next Beach and Coastal Resources Advisory Committee meeting. (12) PROPOSED AGENDA TOPICS FOR NEXT MEETING Committee members added Public Service Announcement discussion to the next meeting agenda. (13) OTHER COMMITTEE COMMUNICATIONS Committee members discussed the Black Skimmers incident on the beach.
