Recognize Members End of Service - Susan LaGrotta, Peggy Anuta, and Maria Tobin Moved Item 8a to Item 5. Director Pinter stated three (3) members are ending terms (2/1/19) on committee. He presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Member Anuta, Member LaGrotta and Member Tobin. Three (3) seats will be available. City Council will announce the appointees on January 22, 2019 for a February 1, 2019 seating. At next month meeting there is a vote for new Chair/Vice Chair. Landscape Maintenance Update - Al Benarroch, Affordable Landscaping Mr. Benarroch had few issues: . White Fly on some trees - Gumbo Limbo, Christmas Palms, other palms, maybe Royal Palms. Will come back next meeting with plans for inoculation. . Sending Director Pinter details on each median damage assessment from Hurricane Irma. . Bromeliads are okay after hurricane, trimmed back to have line of sight. . Irrigation up and running on South Barfield, using water truck. . Sprayed Bouganvilleas, not much flowering, trimmed City trees and roadways. . Cleaned out cul-de-sacs. . Re-landscaped sign at City Hall, next week Goodland sign. b. Staff Report - Tim Pinter Director Pinter reported: January 7, 2019 City Council passed resolution that reinforced and requested changes to Public Works handbook about groundcovers BAC recommended by adding Frog Fruit to swale landscaping in two areas. , Planting around mailboxes were approved with stipulation of 9 sq. ft., no higher than 36", with no permit required. Mr. Pinter will revise handbook for City Council to accept revisions to handbook on February 4, 2019. New 10 year recertified Tree City USA flag will be installed at City Hall, and posting of new special sign. New sign and post ordered for San Marco Road at Goodland Bridge damaged by vehicle accident. Wildlife banners installed, some faded, keep another year, (not buying 80 new ones). Marco Cat banners installed (Historical Society). Company refused replacement of faded banners, maybe use another company in future. Inventory total = 160 banners. Waiting for new sign to install on Collier Boulevard. (7) PUBLIC COMMENT (TIME CERTAIN 4:00 P.M.) None. (8) PRESENTATIONS - None (9) OLD BUSINESS a. 2019 Marco in Bloom - Member Tobin Member Tobin will revise brochure as discussed and forward to Ms. Mastronardi to forward to BAC with changes. Suggestions to advertise: City of Marco website, social media, mobile access, Facebook and Instagram, Press Release to newspapers, and radio station 98.1 for free public service announcement. Yearly budget is $1000. Director Pinter will respond back to BAC regarding process for public to send award application to City on-line. City of Marco Island Florida Page 2 Beautification Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes - Final January 9, 2019 b. 2019 Arbor Day - "Tree Giveaway" - Member Milner Member Milner spoke to National Wildlife Federation regarding donation of $1.00 per sapling to be approved, total cost for saplings is $750. Member Milner will bring three (3) tree recommendations to tree farmer and confirm cost: . Orange Geiger tree (native tree for wildlife program) . Silver Buttonwood . Dahoon Holly c. 2019 BAC Community Presentation - FL Native Planting on Feb 6, 2019 @ 2:00 p.m. in Community Room Member LaGrotta arranged for Brian Bovard, Professor of FL Gulf Coast University, Naples Native Plants Programs Director to speak (30 minutes) at presentation. Requested by BAC to donate $100 to FL Native Plant Society. Director Pinter stated February 15, 2019 Collier County and State law is discussing fertilizers, check another time for fertilizer presentation. Member Tobin volunteered to complete room set up, order microphone and introduce to public. If she is not reappointed, Chair Kirlin will handle. MOTION by Chair Kirlin, to approve $100.donation to Naples Chapter, seconded by Member LaGrotta, that this MOTION be approved. Member Tobin stated the presentation was informative to public, feedback was well taken by homeowners. Chair Kirlin asked Member LaGrotta why she did not attend Community presentation last year. Member LaGrotta stated she was ill. (10) NEW BUSINESS a. Fertilizer Decal for Landscapers Director Pinter reported there was not a lot of support, not sure where program will go. Will check with City Hall, City Clerk, City Manager, and Environmentalist on matter. At this time, there is no fertilizer decal in place. Can start from scratch, not much support due to needing extra staff. b. 2019 Arbor Day - Tree Planting Chair Kirlin discussed planting a tree for Arbor Day in smaller version for National Arbor Day on April 26, 2019, Earth Day is April 22, 2019. Member Irwin volunteered to take charge of event by planting a mature tree on April 26, City of Marco Island Florida Page 3 Beautification Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes - Final January 9, 2019 2019. She will make decision on installing tree location, will be discussed at next meeting. c. Collier County Fertilizer Workshop February 5, 2019 Collier County invited BAC to attend workshop on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. in Collier County chambers. d. Fertilizer Workshop Prep Committee decided against workshop until tasked from City Council to go forward, will discuss at future meeting. (11) COMMITTEE COMMUNICATIONS a. Butterfly Garden Update - Susan LaGrotta Member LaGrotta meets monthly with volunteers. Researching to add an arbor for vine planting (same as Mackle Park). b. Committee Concerns Member Colombo stated to Chair Kirlin it was inappropriate and unprofessional for him to mention to Member LaGrotta her absence at last years' presentation and he owed her an apology. Chair Kirlin apologized to Member LaGrotta.
