Cancel June/July meetings The next PRAC meeting will resume on August 21, 2018. Ms. Malloy reported on the following: Facilities: City of Marco Island Florida Page 1 Parks and Recreation Advisory Meeting Minutes - Final May 15, 2018 Committee Veterans' Community Park: Ms. Malloy stated information getting out to residents through Kimley-Horn's meetings until November 2018, they are creating graphs to help calculate public feedback. Our park is receiving calls, emails and questionnaires daily helping communication to public. Received input from VFW and American Legion. Winterberry Park: Closed for light repair. Contractor took down fencing near dugouts, backlog is taking time. Looking for other solutions to replace fencing. Need protection from foul balls. Little League area can be used getting 3 estimates (underground work). Night games are challenging. Estimated time for repairs are on priority list, working diligently for solutions. Contact Parks & Recreation to reserve use of field. Received estimate to install, and set up scoreboard. Vice Chair Levine - broadcast PRAC meetings on Facebook, Chamber of Commerce, Twitter, and in newspapers. Calusa Park: Pathway has started. Vice Chair Levine checking with Director Pinter on options for parking, and crosswalk from Library to Mackle Park (across Heathwood Drive). Tommie Barfield Elementary: Irrigation has been repaired, improving dry grass, will take some time due to years without being maintained. Leigh Plummer: Watered with potable water per Al Benarroch, Affordable Landscaping three times per week. Mackle Park: Camp Mackle registration (camp starts June 1st) started and will continue all summer for 1st - 5th grades, Camp Stellar 6th - 8th grade. Received many interested calls, proposing approximately 80- 100 children daily. Sailing Program: Received lease for 5 years, need approval for dock repair due to hurricane damage starting in 2 weeks in June (for 2 weeks). Possibly starting program in July 2018 after construction is completed. Ms. Malloy stated an Open House for the program is yearly. Received interest in Paddle Boarding program. Member Richards will contact YMCA regarding discounted swimming lessons for Camp Mackle. Racquet Center: Committee - 3 members pickleball and 3 members tennis, first meeting May 18th at 2:00 p.m. with staff. Chair Portu reviewed courts with Ms. Malloy, his suggestion to resurface Court #1 (in budget). Will add capacity for pickleball or tennis - solution to try to redo court #1 for lessons, make court multi-purpose to use for tennis/pickleball. Take Court #2 make it permanently pickleball court resulting in total of 9 pickleball courts. All clay courts will be in tact as easy fix which will allow more pickleball players availability. (7) PUBLIC COMMENT (TIME CERTAIN 4:00 P.M.) City of Marco Island Florida Page 2 Parks and Recreation Advisory Meeting Minutes - Final May 15, 2018 Committee Racquet Center input was at 3:33 p.m.: David Shaggett - Collier County uses same vendor for fencing, could be another option. Parking is concern, concept on pickleballer spending all day, is false. It is usually 60-90 minutes up to 2 hrs. There is no cap on number of members allowed at facility. Court #8 - tennis not using anything, not trying to take tennis courts away. If increase dues substantially, some players will not play, if only for 3 months, look into a 3 month membership only for those playing pickleball many years. Relative dues - 9 courts for pickleball - only occupying 27% of courts. Pickleball dues not cost same as tennis due to less maintenance. Court #1 and Court #2 for pickleball with be ecstatic. Communication with staff, very pleasant, thanked them for time. PUBLIC COMMENT AT 4:02 PM: (TIME CERTAIN) Dawn Kuhn, 505 Tigertail Court - surprised about survey and response. Not everyone on Facebook/Twitter. Next discussion will be at next PRAC meeting in August 2018, other feedback will be up until November 2018. Diane Shaggett - survey to taxpayer via postcard, direct mail to listed taxpayers on water bil. Make available at Mackle Park or Library. (8) PRESENTATIONS None. (9) OLD BUSINESS a. FY19 Budget Update Chair Portu inquired if members had modifications regarding the draft proposed FY19 budget memo as forwarded to PRAC. Vice Chair Levine - donation of $1,000 for new bench at Mackle Park. Leigh Plummer Park needs tree shade. Chair Portu stated if budget approved for replacement of 50 trees, PRAC can schedule workshop to find proper locations. Jane Hittler Park needs garbage cans. Ms. Malloy will check into empty cans. Also, can use artwork under bridge, church property. Al Benarroch stated there are no garbage cans at Jane Hittler Park due to vandalism. Shoe cleaner at Racquet Center has been ordered. b. Veterans' Community Park Update Ms. Malloy stated some of the questionnaire feedback findings are: Band shell, restrooms - open 24 hrs., nice walkway, and shading. Questions on how park is being used, veterans do not want band shell, keep park calm, not crowded. Getting alot of feedback, more response from residents. MICA's survey (few years ago) was 80% in favor of band shell. Kimley-Horn will create report regarding percentages in favor of amenities. MICA sending survey to Parks & Recreation, then sending to Kimley-Horn. Chair Grifoni stated 6,400 residents voted for City Council. Use ad in newspapers, Facebook, Twitter, and Chamber of Commerce, reached out to 3,000 residents. MI Food Forest (vegetables/spices garden) Member Richards - presented topics (emailed to PRAC): Purpose Definition Samples of How Forest is Created Objectives FGCU Food Forest Plants Landscape Architect Chair Portu stated $5,000 in FY18 budget to help with project. Ms. Malloy will contact City's Purchasing Manager to find out procedure for PRAC to move forward on project. Member Richards will contact FGCU (and get estimate) on how to research project for students and community. (10) NEW BUSINESS None. (11) COMMITTEE COMMUNICATIONS None.
