Programs/Facilities - Samantha Malloy Ms. Malloy thanked everyone for attending "Concert in the Park" Saturday evening, great turn out , reviews, and feedback, with over 1,000 in attendance. Sponsored by First Fidelity Integrity Bank who donated $5,500, $10,000 in City budget. April 6, 2019 next concert. Community Center busy with bocce, booked every weekend for: shuffleboard, volleyball, field usage, facility rooms booked, and hired three (3) new instructors for Racquet Center. Parks & Recreation calendar can be viewed on City website for up and coming programs: Valentine Bingo, Casino trip, adult exercise classes and card games. b. City Council Report - Samantha Malloy City of Marco Island Florida Page 1 Parks and Recreation Advisory Meeting Minutes - Final January 15, 2019 Committee Member Minning arrived at 3:07 p.m. Ms. Malloy suggested PRAC attend City Council meeting on February 4, 2019 with Kimley-Horn. Dawn Kuhn, 505 Tigertail Court, thanked staff for resurfaced pickleball courts at Racquet Center. Mr. Benarroch, Affordable Landscaping is planting two trees for Beautification Advisory Committee for Arbor Day on January 18, 2019. He is donating one tree including labor to install. Mr. Benarroch installed larger ball valve at Veterans' Community Park instead of turning water on full blast continually, lowered water pressure. (8) PRESENTATIONS a. Recognize PRAC Members End of Service 2/1/19 Chair Portu congratulated Vice Chair Levine with Certificate of Appreciation, Member Lutz will also receive plaque, their term expired 2/1/19. (9) OLD BUSINESS a. Veterans' Community Park Update Ms. Malloy stated James Pankonin, Kimley-Horn, sending final plans prior to Feb. 4, 2019 City Council meeting. Fountain issues due to high water pressure in pipe resulting in crack, unable to repair, pipe replaced, with help from Affordable Landscaping. Getting concrete mold to repair top of fountain, due any day, will help with rust. Chair Portu stated funds in holding pattern, need budgetary ($150,000 funds ready to spend) information from Kimley-Horn, push for approval to use or lose funds. b. Food/Spice Garden - Member Richards Member Richards stated FL Agriculture State interested in helping with program. Meeting next Thursday at 9:30 a.m. Community Garden will speak to City Council to approve and move forward. (10) NEW BUSINESS Chair Portu suggested setting aside funds for Jane Hittler Park for more seating and landscape improvements ($2500 in budget). Will set up meeting with Ms. Malloy and Affordable Landscaping to visit site for plan. Need five (5) year capital improvement plan for all park properties, need format for process and budget. City of Marco Island Florida Page 2 Parks and Recreation Advisory Meeting Minutes - Final January 15, 2019 Committee Director Smith met with Ms. Malloy and City Manager Harden discussing creative strategic plans (Goals & Objectives) on how parks are used, and to help avoid restroom open/closed issues. Bocce requested restroom facilities stay open during holidays at Mackle Park, will need more staff time. Eventually, Veterans' Community Park (with new amenities) will need more staff. Director Smith will be discussing homes being developed, and endangered species in parks. Marco Island is an environmental community, funds are coming our way from FL Governor due to storm water quality. (11) COMMITTEE COMMUNICATIONS Vice Chair Levine stated it was a pleasure working with PRAC, will help in future. Member Bonos stated Souper Bowl is February 2, 2019 at Mackle Park. Funds raised from event are for kids scholarships, time of event is 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. (12) ADJOURNMENT Meeting adjourned at 3:34 p.m. NOTE: TWO OR MORE CITY COUNCILORS OR OTHER COMMITTEE MEMBERS MAY BE PRESENT City of Marco Island Florida Page 3
