Facilities/Programs Update - Samantha Malloy Ms. Malloy reported: Government Week October 21st - 25th on City calendar/website with schedule for each day. M.I.A. Students Q & A with City Councilors - October 21st Marco Island Historical Society - October 22nd, 12:00p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Mackle Park - Open to community 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., October 23rd Weeklong neighborhood cleanup, send photos for social media - October 26th Mackle Park Programs/ Events: Movies in Park - October 25th Spooktacular - October 26th Howl-O-Scream trip to Busch Gardens - October 17-18 (middle school students) Adult Casino Trip Racquet Center: Restroom restoration update - Scheduling contractor for discussion: ADA compliant, permitting, wider wheelchair entrance @ 36" wide door, and open door push button. Use 15 passenger bus for Camp Mackle, other programs at Racquet Center, Winterberry Park, and working with Marco Island Center for Art. b. October 2019 Report - Samantha Malloy ID 19-538 October 2019 Parks & Recreation Report Attachments: Oct 2019 Parks & Recreation Report.pdf See above 6.a. (7) PUBLIC COMMENT (TIME CERTAIN 4:00 P.M.) Margaret Bramel, 816 W. Elkcam reported Racquet Center members contacted: 228 pickleball (PB) members, 180 members donated forty one (41) checks totaling $5,450 to transpose court #1 to pickleball court. Hired MOR Sports to resurface Court #1, trying to avoid 2 renovations (Court #1 & restrooms) at same time. Ms. Malloy reported Racquet Center restrooms start time estimated within eight (8) weeks after receive permit. Ms. Montgomery purchased new pickleball nets. (8) PRESENTATIONS None. a. Additional Shade Structure Mackle Park Playground - Adrian Conner Member Conner presented reasons shade structure needed at Kids Cove playground at City of Marco Island Florida Page 2 Parks and Recreation Advisory Meeting Minutes - Final October 15, 2019 Committee Mackle Park: Naples parks has shade structures covering play areas (approved by Naples City Council). Swings too hot to sit on, or to play Playground 15 years old, no major upgrades No shade structure over equipment, current new shade structure too small, does not cover necessary sunny areas. Too hot and sunny for kids at Kids Cove playground (tot lot), and younger kids basketball court. New shade structures: During hurricanes: Canopies removable, poles permanent 10 year warranty, with standing 170 mph Received estimates from three (3) contractors: Leathers & Associates, Creative Shade Solutions and Bliss Shade over entire playground: over swing sets, contractor working on now. Consider staff time to take down and re-install, no specialized tools needed. Need more efficient process, shady trees are option. Chair Portu - Use contractor who built playground, more valuable, earmark improvements mid year. Ms.Malloy stated playground housing painted numerously. She researching ideas to cover cosmetic improvements, with minor changes this year, next year possibly major changes. Update Kids Cove playground and expect to add request to FY21 budget. Member Conner will bring estimates and detailed installation time frame. Director Smith - In order to apply for grants: need new Master Plan for parks, if discussed, is priority, then discuss with City Council. Open space, parks element, more playgrounds, more pickleball, drive capital improvement budget, state needs to know City serious improving park systems, more likely to receive grants. (9) OLD BUSINESS a. Food Spice Garden Update - Vice Chair Richards Vice Chair Richards updated installation of citrus trees. FL Dept of Forestry wants to donate trees around Arbor Day. No update, continuing working on project. (10) NEW BUSINESS Tommie Barfield Elementary School agreed with Collier County School District, to not use fields during school hours. Any questions, please contact Ms. Malloy for quicker response. Vietnam Wall - Trying to raise $25,000, if questions, contact Lee Rubenstein. (11) COMMITTEE COMMUNICATIONS Chair Portu informed Ms.Malloy to respond on complaint from men's softball league regarding kids playing soccer at Winterberry Park. Fields open to public, okay if kids play after school. Chair Portu - Waiting for status of Veterans' Community Park band shell topic on next City Council agenda for fund raising effort. Ms. Malloy stated Kimley-Horn has Notice to Proceed letter. Director Pinter assigned as Project Manager, City of Marco Island Florida Page 3 Parks and Recreation Advisory Meeting Minutes - Final October 15, 2019 Committee waiting for scheduled meeting date. Chair Portu requested Director Pinter attend PRAC meeting to update committee on park. Director Smith will inform PRAC when project on City Council agenda. Lee Rubenstein, Chair Veterans' Community Park Ad-HOC committee has $7,000 remaining. He is continuing raising more funds for whatever needed. Chair Portu trying to meld two fund raising projects into one in coordinating effort with Veterans Memorial and Veterans' Community Park.
