Facilities/Programs Update - Samanatha Malloy Ms. Malloy, Director Smith and committee discussed facilities/programs: See PRAC Report. Racquet Center: Two restroom renovations need 50% deposit, new flood plan standards (structure non-compliant), and estimate from engineers. Appraisal process costly ($1,800.00). Farmers Market: Tomorrow possible cancellation due to expected rain (wet field damage/safety issue). Sent email to vendors stating the same. Market scheduled on Mondays before Christmas and New Years Day. Affordable Landscaping repairing broken pipe on sprinklers. Dog Park: Sod installation completed, checking sprinklers. Jane Hittler Park bridge: City awarded to paint entire bridge - $89-$90,000 under Public Works budget. Veterans' Community Park: Friday night Movie in the Park "Grinch" Concert in Park - January 11th Bruce Springsteen alike cover band, Sarah Hadeka opening, starting 4:30 pm b. December 2019 PRAC Report Discussed on 6.a. ID 19-669 Dec 2019 PRAC Report (7) PUBLIC COMMENT (TIME CERTAIN 4:00 P.M.) - None (8) PRESENTATIONS a. Youth Council Melissa Scott, Principal and Randy Montgomery, Teacher of Marco Island Academy (MIA) discussed restructuring Youth Council to solicit high school students to start up program. Ms. Scott suggested mission, purpose with group goals, yearly project with community participation with text tutoring, and help problematic kids go to place without drinking or drugs. Chair Portu stated PRAC intends to support Youth Council leadership program with specific involvement on ways to accomplish successful program to make it happen. Funds received, never utilized, due to lack of student interest. Ms. Malloy noted program open to all high school age children, including 9th-12th grades. Need application process with feedback from interested students. Vice Chair City Council Grifoni volunteered to help with project (proposed in 2017), having a lot of momentum and did not move forward, was a lull. MIA approached City Council at meeting sparking interest for high school students to attend City Council (next meeting City of Marco Island Florida Page 2 Parks and Recreation Advisory Meeting Minutes - Final December 17, 2019 Committee January 6, 2020) meetings regularly. Get better timing, get moving now, kids have ideas, funding, volunteer hours, coordinate kids interest. Get back into larger scale with State wide program. Get moving January, interest and get ideas out there, do not let die. He agreed with Ms. Richards to start up again and move forward and report to City Council again. (9) OLD BUSINESS a. Food Spice Garden Update - Vice Chair Richards Vice Chair Richards presented placement location map (near black olive trees) for four (4) trees, (across Family Church). Mr. Benarroch, Affordable Landscaping not allowing certain food trees due to iguana citings, only lemon/lime trees. Tapping off sprinkler system to water each tree to help grow all year round. b. Parks Foundation 501(c)(3) Chair Portu reported 501(c)(3) first reading passed at City Council meeting, second reading January 6, 2020 on City Council agenda. Once approved, will figure out Board. Member Seigel stated remaining funds ($7,000-$8,000) in Regions Bank. City Council Chair Brechnitz researching to determine available funds from previous Parks & Recreation Foundation. Ms. Malloy noted meeting Thursday regarding Veterans' Community Park. Director Smith working on construction documents, issues and proposals to move forward by end of January. Chair Portu stated to get in front of PRAC, not too late, involve public. If hear something, pass along. c. Shade for Kids Cove at Mackle Park - Adrian Conner Member Conner waiting on three (3) vendors estimates with discussion upon receipt. d. Racquet Center Restroom Update Discussed on 6.a.
