POLICE AND FIRE COMMISSION MINUTES
July 18, 2024 at 5:30 PM
303 Mansion Street Mauston, WI
1. Call to Order/Roll Call- The Police and Fire Commission held a regular meeting on July 18, 2024,
in the Council Chambers of Mauston City Hall. Vice Chair Gruman called the meeting to order at
5:30 p.m. The members present were Jack Hammer, Katie Gruman, and Gary Purvis. Absent were
Brian McGuire and Deborah Shuman. Also present were Police Chief Mike Zilisch, Fire Inspector
Chris Carioscia, and City Administrator Daron Haugh.
2. Minutes- Gruman/Purvis approved the Minutes of June 20, 2024. Motion carried by voice vote.
3. Financial Report- Purvis/Hammer approved the Financial Report as presented. The motion was
carried by voice vote.
4. Fire Chief's Report-
a. The calls for service in June 2024 were reviewed. No other report or action because Chief
Lenorud was not able to attend the meeting.
b. Peter Treml's application to the Fire Department- This item was tabled until the next
meeting when Fire Chief Lenorud is in attendance.
5. Fire Inspector- Carioscia presented the June 2024 and YTD fire inspection report. Carioscia
will research to see if fire inspection reports can be broken down by township.
Hammer/Purvis approved City Administrator Haugh to write language in the township contract
renewals to include fire reinspection fees and penalties. The motion was carried by voice
vote. Carioscia left the meeting at 5:55 p.m.
6. Police Chief's Report-
a. The June 2024 statistical reports were reviewed and explained. The total number of calls
for service in June 2024 was 1483 compared to June 2023, which was 1291. Last month,
there were 1251 calls.
b. Chief Zilisch shared continued frustration with the lack of qualified patrol officer candidates and
discussed strategies to attract applicants.
c. Hammer/Gruman approved the Police Chief’s report. The motion was carried by voice vote.
7. Adjourn- Purvis/Gruman to adjourn – motion carried by voice vote – meeting adjourned at 6:37
p.m.
