POLICE AND FIRE COMMISSION MINUTES
January 23, 2025 at 5:30 PM

1. Call to Order/Roll Call: The Police and Fire Commission meet on January 23, 2025, in the
Council Chambers of Mauston City Hall. Chair Brian McGuire called the meeting to order at 5:36
p.m. The members present were Jack Hammer, Katie Gruman, Brian McGuire, Deborah Shuman,
and Gary Purvis. Police Chief Mike Zilisch, and Fire Chief Brent Lenorud, were also present.
2. Minutes: Purvis/Hammer to approve the minutes of December 19, 2024. Motion carried by voice
vote.
3. Financial Report: Purvis/Hammer to approve the Financial Report as presented. Motion carried
by voice vote.
4. Fire Chief's Report: The calls for service in December 2024 were reviewed and explained.
Chief Lenorud reported that training is taking place on the new tanker and that the old tanker is
listed on Wisconsin Surplus. He also said that during the course of ice rescue training, it was
realized that new rescue suits were needed, and so four of them have been purchased. The
process of purchasing a new brush truck is ongoing as the Fire Department looks for other
dealers. Finally, Chief Lenorud informed the PFC that there were no firefighter applications at this
time. Gruman/Shuman motion to approve the Fire Chief’s Report. Motion carried by voice vote.
5. Police Chief's Report: The December 2024 statistical reports were reviewed and explained. The
total calls for service in December 2024 was 1353 while in December 2023, there were 1157
calls. Last month, there were 1329 calls. Another statistic worth noting is that the You Are Not
Alone program is growing as there were 47 contacts made in December, up from 8 the previous
month. Chief Zilisch also provided a year-end budget update
Hammer/McGuire to approve the Police Chief’s report. Motion carried by voice vote.
6. Adjourn: McGuire/Gruman to adjourn – motion carried by voice vote – meeting adjourned at 6:21
p.m.
