POLICE AND FIRE COMMISSION MEETING
MINUTES
December 19, 2024 at 5:30 PM
303 Mansion Street Mauston, WI- Community Room
1. Call to Order/Roll Call: The Police and Fire Commission meet on December 19, 2024, in the
Council Chambers of Mauston City Hall. Chair Brian McGuire called the meeting to order at 5:30
p.m. The members present were Jack Hammer, Katie Gruman, Brian McGuire, and Gary
Purvis. Absent was Deborah Shuman. Police Chief Mike Zilisch, Fire Chief Brent Lenorud,
Assistant Fire Chief Nelson, and City Administrator Daron Haugh were also present.
2. Minutes: McGuire/Gruman approved the November 21, 2024 minutes. Motion carried
unanimously.
3. Financial Report: Hammer/Purvis motioned to approve the Financial Report as presented. Motion
carried unanimously.
4. Assistant Fire Chief's Report: The calls for service in November 2024 were reviewed and
explained. Assistant Chief Nelson reported that the new tanker has been picked up and a new 3”
hose was ordered to be used with the tanker. Additionally, he told the Commission that they had
been cleaning out some of the old equipment at the fire station.
McGuire/Purvis motion to approve the Assistant Fire Chief’s Report. Motion carried unanimously.
Nelson left the meeting at 5:52 p.m.
5. Police Chief's Report: The November 2024 statistical reports were reviewed and explained. The
total calls for service in November 2024 was 1329 while in November 2023, there were 1090
calls. Last month, there were 1267 calls.
Chief Zilisch reported that Officer Kierstyn would likely be finishing his field training in
January. Chief Zilisch also reported that the new officer position has been posted and explained a
new program/service that the Police Dept. is offering. This service is called YANA and stands for
You Are Not Alone. When people sign up for this service, they elect to receive phone calls from
the Mauston PD on a regular basis just to check-in. This service is primarily for senior citizens and
disabled people.
McGuire/Purvis to approve the Police Chief’s report. Motion carried unanimously.
6. Adjourn: Hammer/Gruman to adjourn. Motion carried unanimously. The meeting adjourned at
6:05 p.m.
