POLICE AND FIRE COMMISSION MINUTES June 26, 2025 at 5:30 PM 303 Mansion Street Mauston, WI 1. Call to Order/Roll Call: The Police and Fire Commission met on June 26, 2025, in the Council Chambers of Mauston City Hall. Chair Brian McGuire called the meeting to order at 5:36 p.m. Members present were Jack Hammer, Katie Gruman, Deborah Shuman, and Brian McGuire. Gary Purvis was absent. Also present were Police Chief Mike Zilisch, Assistant Fire Chief Rob Nelson, and City Administrator Daron Haugh. 2. Minutes: Motion by Hammer, seconded by Gruman, to approve the minutes of the May 21, 2025, meeting. Motion passed by voice vote. 3. Financial Report: Motion by McGuire, seconded by Gruman, to approve the Financial Report as presented. Motion passed by voice vote. 4. Fire Chief's Report: The calls for service in May 2025 were reviewed and explained. Assistant Chief Nelson reported that the Fire Department received funding for hose purchases, along with donations from a memorial fund and Oakdale Electric. Additionally, following the recent conference in Wisconsin Dells where the new tanker was featured, a donation from Midwest Tanker was accepted. He also reported that three firefighters recently completed the officer class, and a new command vehicle and slide-in unit for the brush truck have been ordered. Finally, he stated that the Fire Department received positive feedback from the Pancake Breakfast. Motion by Hammer, seconded by McGuire, to approve the Fire Chief’s Report. Motion passed by voice vote. 5. Police Chief's Report: The May 2025 statistical reports were reviewed and explained. There were 1,744 calls for service in May, 2025, compared to 1,251 calls in May 2024. Last month (April 2025), there were 1,727 calls. Motion by Hammer, seconded by McGuire, to approve the Police Chief’s Report. Motion passed by voice vote. 6. The Swearing in of Officer Taylor Rakes: A short ceremony was held for the swearing-in of Officer Taylor Rakes as he officially becomes a patrol officer for the City of Mauston. Members of the Police Department as well as Officer Rakes’ family were present, followed by a small reception. The Police and Fire Commission congratulates and welcomes Officer Rakes to the Mauston Police Department. 7. Emergency Billing Appeal: The individual appealing the billing was unable to attend due to a work conflict. Motion by McGuire, seconded by Hammer, to table this item until the July meeting. Motion passed by voice vote. 8. Adjourn: Motion by Gruman, seconded by Shuman, to adjourn. Motion passed by voice vote. Meeting adjourned at 6:01 p.m.
