POLICE AND FIRE COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES January 22, 2026 at 5:30 PM 303 Mansion Street Mauston, WI 1. Call to Order/Roll Call: The Police and Fire Commission met on January 22, 2026, in the Council Chambers at Mauston City Hall. Chair Brian McGuire called the meeting to order at 5:36 p.m. Members present were Jack Hammer, Gary Purvis, Brian McGuire, Deborah Shuman, and Katie Gruman. Also present were Fire Chief Lenorud and Police Chief Zilisch. Chief Zilisch left the meeting at 5:42 p.m. 2. Minutes: Motion by McGuire, seconded by Purvis, to approve the minutes of November 20, 2025. Motion carried by voice vote. 3. Financial Report: Motion by Hammer, seconded by Gruman, to approve the financial reports as presented. Motion carried unanimously by voice vote. 4. Fire Chief's Report: The calls for service in December 2025 were reviewed. There were four (4) calls in the City and five (5) calls in the rural area, for a total of nine (9) calls in December 2025. For 2025, there were 142 total calls. The Fire Department also conducted one (1) training drill. The Commission requested Chief Lenorud report total calls and firefighter man-hours for both 2024 and 2025 at the next meeting. In a personnel update, Chief Lenorud reported that one firefighter will be removed from the roster after securing a full-time position with another department. He also reported that three new firefighters have been hired and will attend entry-level firefighter training in New Lisbon, bringing the total number of firefighters to 34. After noting that some firefighters had limited hours logged in recent months, the Commission asked Chief Lenorud to review participation benchmarks outlined in the Standard Operating Guidelines (SOGs) to ensure minimum requirements are met. Chief Lenorud also reported that the new command truck is nearly ready for service. Motion by Gruman, seconded by Shuman, to approve the Fire Chief’s written report. Motion carried by voice vote. 5. Police Chief's Report: The November and December 2025 statistical reports were reviewed and explained. Total calls for service in November 2025 were 1,538, compared to 1,329 in November 2024. Total calls for service in December 2025 were 1,809, compared to 1,353 in December 2024. Chief Zilisch informed the Commission that five-year service recognition awards will be presented to Sergeant Brandon Arenz, Officer Matthew Schwichtenberg, and Officer Aaren Weinke at the next City Council meeting. The Commission expressed its congratulations and appreciation. Motion by Gruman, seconded by Shuman, to approve the Police Chief’s report. Motion carried by voice vote. 6.
