Shade Tree Commission

Village of Millbrook, NY Shade Tree Commission April 09, 2025 4pm Village Hall Present: Bucklin, Collopy, McGrane, Shuminov and Highway Supervisor Ethan Kelly. Date Set: Arbor Day will be held on April 25th, 2025.​ Tree Planting: The Highway Department will dig the hole at a location selected by the Commission. Elm Drive Elementary will participate in the event, and Dennis Gendron, Arborist NY-5348A from Deep Roots Direct, will supply and plant the tree. Discussion: The Commission discussed how to maintain the tree(s) after planting, focusing on watering as a key aspect of care. The possibility of creating a formal maintenance guide was considered. Bylaw Review Discussion: The Commission continued its review of the bylaws. It was affirmed that the Village of Millbrook is responsible for the removal of trees up to six (6) feet from the edge of the road. The Commission discussed the concept of a potential Memorial Tree Project. Discussed Tribs. for trees and the application process. Discussed Tree City USA status. Action: The Commission agreed to review a list of trees for removal that was presented by the Highway Department. Discussion: The Commission discussed planting trees this Spring/Summer in locations where trees were removed during the previous year. ​ Next meeting is set for May 13th, 2025 4pm.
