Renaissance Zone Board Meeting Meeting Minutes for September 09, 2021 @ 8:30am. Public Works Building 1025 31st Street SE. Members Present: Pete Hugret (Chair), Betty Fedorchak, Justin Anderson, Josh Wolsky, Jason Bentley (by phone) Members Absent: Pat Bailey, Kerry Candrian, Michael King, Jen Cook Others Present: Jonathan Rosenthal (Economic Development Administrator), Glenda Sorensen (Admin) Guests: Jim Montgomery (representing the Grand Hotel), Kevin Black (by phone) Call to Order: Pete Hugret called the meeting to order at 8:48 am. Agenda: Transmission of request from Grand Hotel for their block to be added to the Renaissance Zone. Review of 2021 Renaissance Zone Development Plan – FINAL DRAFT _____________________________________________________________________ Adopt Meeting Minutes Motion by Wolsky to approve the August 19, 2021 meeting minutes, second by Anderson. ayes: all, nays: none. Motion passes Transmission of request from Grand Hotel for their block to be added to Renaissance Zone Jim Montgomery, representing the Grand Hotel, gave a presentation to the committee that included two presentation boards designed by an architectural firm. Mr. Montgomery gave a history of the hotel, of which his family members are co-owners, which focused on the building being a premier hotel and convention center. The hotel has been locally owned and operated since 1963. There was discussion regarding the drop in valuation after the oil boom, and the need to start upgrading the property, which will require investors. It was brought up that the Grand Hotel has Covid positive individuals staying at the hotel, and is assisting with the quarantine process for the Minot Air Force Base (MAFB). The board requested that additional information on the value of proposed renovations be acquired from the City Assessors office. Rosenthal will obtain the information. Motion by Wolsky to table this item for two weeks, second by Anderson. ayes: all, nays: none. Motion passes Review of 2021 Renaissance Zone Development Plan – FINAL DRAFT. Motion by Wolsky to approve the draft of Proposed Renaissance Zone Program and to forward to the City Council, second by Fedorchak. ayes: all, nays: none.
