Montpelier Senior Activity Center 58 Barre Street, Montpelier, VT 05602 A Place for Healthy Aging and Lifelong Learning 802-223-2518 • msac@montpelier-vt.org • montpelier-vt.org/msac Advisory Council Meeting Monday, July 17, 2017 12:00 – 2:30 PM MSAC Resource Room, Montpelier, Vermont Meeting convened at 12:12 PM, first 2.5 hour AC bi-monthly meeting FY18 Present at Roll Call: Director Janna Clar AC Members: Chair Bob Barrett, Mary Carlson, Liz Dodd, Bill Doelger, Fran Krushenick, Barbara Ladabouche, Ron Merkin, dianne richardson, Sue Stukey Late attending: Janet Ressler June 19, 2017 minutes were approved. Corrected June 20, 2017 will be redistributed and approved September 18, 2017 Votes  No votes were taken. Announcements  Dan Groberg was accepted to the Snelling Center for Government Vermont Leadership Institute.  Ceramic coolers using filtered water have been placed in the art room, lobby, and upstairs.  150 $10 volunteer gift certificates have been purchased from local venders for the Volunteer Recognition Luncheon.  Rebecca Johnston, VISTA member, will begin a year with Montpelier Community Services in August supporting fundraising and volunteer management.  FEAST Together will request a $5 donation for Over 60’s for the next 3 months (down from $7. Discussions:  Strategic plan and accreditation, Bob Bill Doelger drafted a statement on the benefits of MSAC accreditation and long term planning for outreach to stakeholders.  MSAC becoming a cold or hot weather safe haven during hours of operation; collecting and distributing cooling fans, follow up on the Blue Zone initiative; revive a neighborhood calling tree; press release that MSAC is a cool haven during work hours.  Ron Merkin reported the Central VT New Directions Coalition had not made much progress with their survey because many elders were reluctant to restrict public smoking seeing it as a restriction on personal rights. The group has not scheduled a public discussion at MSAC as of this date. Janna advised the Advisory Council they could survey the MSAC membership for their opinion. dianne richardson said she would investigate membership’s opinion on making MSAC fragrance-free. Actions  Update Advisory Council Agendas to include: roll call with present and missing members; confirm quorum for voting; voting at the beginning of the meeting; financial status; and MSAC and Sub Committee Updates Including: Montpelier Community Services Integration, Strategic Plan, Accreditation, Programming, Fundraising, Finance, Membership & Hospitality.  Bill Doelger will investigate Blue Zone programming at MSAC.  Schedule first Stakeholders Quarterly Meeting in September to discuss strategic plan.  Members should continue to do outreach for new members to fill in the Advisory Council.
