Tree Board

Montpelier Tree Board Meeting in the Memorial Room of City Hall Minutes for July 5, 2012, 5:30pm Bob Troester, Wendy Blakeman, Geoff Beyer, and Sarah Hoffmeier were in attendance.  Approved June minutes  Set new maintenance day of Saturday, July 28th from 9am-12pm. Sarah will borrow Geoff’s pole saw to have two volunteers use to prune East State and Hubbard overhanging trees.  Nursery update: Carol and John V. were not at the meeting to update us on the status of the irrigation, but hopefully will in August. Geoff’s crew will be finishing up mid-August, so rototilling the nursery will need to be done before they leave. (Need to coordinate and set a work date where re- inventory can happen at the same time).  Watering volunteers have been doing a great job with the downtown trees. New volunteers, Jennifer and Lauren Grant, have been doing the City Center Block, Abby and Sarah will coordinate the other streets and target which trees need to be watered most during dry spells.  Geoff will check on the status of the Conservation Commission gift of $3,000 towards the purchase of a new grate and guard set. Sarah and Bob offered to point out a prominent area for the new set and to measure existing ones for accuracy in ordering.  Geoff has 24 trees (small to medium) which will need to be planted sometime between mid-August and the 1st week of October. Three locations downtown include: in front of Three Penny, in front of Pinky’s, and in front of Book Garden. Other streets to look for possible places include: Barre Street, River Street, on Rte. 12 near the Meadow Mart, and near the Creamee Stand on Rt. 2.  Adjourned at 6:15pm Respectfully submitted by Sarah Hoffmeier, Co-chair, Montpelier Tree Board
