Historic Landmarks Commission

MORGANTOWN HISTORIC LANDMARKS COMMISSION July 18, 2018 The meeting was called to order at 7 pm in the Public Safety Building by Shannon Tinnell. Those present were Shannon Tinnell, Jeanne Grimm, Bill Kawecki, Jessica Eichlin and Kathy Hanko. The minutes from the June meeting were approved after correction. NEW BUSINESS: The City has communicated that they are missing several agendas and minutes. We have given them all that we have. Jessica said she was contacted by Bradley Allen who has an historic survey business, Slats and Vellum, and expressed interest in possible working with our group. It was noted that he would need to be on the SHPO approved list. Jennifer Thorton, PhD has been hired by WVU as an instructor in the Department of Public History. She is open to collaboration with the Morgantown Historic Landmarks Commission. OLD BUSINESS: Plans were discussed for the CLG training in Parkersburg September 20-22, 2018. Members of this group are urged to make plans if they want to attend. Jessica is working on the plans for our Facebook page. She is familiarizing herself with the MHLC archives. The 2019 Roundtable will focus on genealogy and will take the place of our March meeting. The budget of $1500 is part of the City budget plans. The Cemetery Workshop scheduled for September is in jeopardy because Jonathan Appel has not returned a signed contract. We will check with him ASAP. The Chancery Hill Survey is making good progress. Decker’s Creek Pedestrian Bridge has been opened and dedicated. There will be a celebration on July 28 that will include music and food carts. Bill mentioned that the City has received a grant to install benches downtown. Warner/Lower High St development is ongoing. Indian Park historic plaque is in the works. The City was contacted about the South Walnut St brick repair. There was no response. Shannon will try again and will add one block of Ash St in South Park to the request. The Sabraton Survey has begun by Courtney Zimmerman. Bill was asked about the historic significance of the house at 106 Wilson Ave. He will check on the description on the Historic District designation and will respond.
