Historic Landmarks Commission

MORGANTOWN HISTORIC LANDMARKS COMMISSION August 15, 2018 The meeting was called to order at 7 pm in the Public Safety Building by Shannon Tinnell. Those present were Shannon Tinnell, Jeanne Grimm, Bill Kawecki, Jessica Eichlin and Kathy Hanko. The minutes from the July meeting were approved. NEW BUSINESS: there was no new business OLD BUSINESS: Plans were discussed for the CLG training in Parkersburg September 20-22, 2018. Jessica plans to attend. Others are not sure yet. There was discussion on how to do travel and registration reimbursement. Bill will check with Carol Allen at the City. Jessica is working with our Facebook page. She is perusing the MHLC archives for content. We have 93 likes so far and has used it to communicate about the upcoming Cemetery Workshop. The 2019 Roundtable will focus on genealogy and will take the place of our March meeting. We will have some presenters from the WVU History Department. Jen Thorton, WVU’s new instructor, shared her teaching material that she will use in her class with Jeanne who brought it to us. It will be very helpful for future projects. Work continues on planning for the Cemetery Workshop. Kathy will get sand and gravel and has made arrangements to get water for cleaning the stones. Bill is checking on lunch providers for 35 people with 8-10 vegetarian choices. The Chancery Hill Survey was due today and was submitted for review. Warner/Lower High St development is ongoing. Indian Park historic plaque is in the works. The monument may need some maintenance. Shannon will check on that. The City was contacted about the South Walnut St brick repair. There was no response. Shannon will try again and will add one block of Ash St in South Park to the request. The Sabraton Survey is in progress by Courtney Zimmerman. She met today with Jen Thorton and Jeanne Grimm. Courtney Zimmerman provided a training document for the WVU students that will help with the project. Jeanne gave us copies of the survey area. The meeting was adjourned at 7:45 pm.
