Woodburn School Redevelopment Commission
Minutes of Thursday April 25, 2019
Members present: Chris Haddox, John Trumble, Marti Shamberger, Ron Dulaney,
The meeting was called to order and introductions were made by Chris Haddox at 6:00 p.m. at Woodburn
School. Guests: Danielle Trumble from WAN and Friends of Woodburn group
The minutes of the March meeting were reviewed and approved as presented.
Members were reminded about vacancies on the WRDC board. A reminder regarding the vacancies on
the Facebook page and during the April 27 event was discussed.
Discussion was held about planning the event on April 27 from 1-4 p.m. focusing on what goes on at the
Woodburn School site and why it is important. The following action items from the meeting were:
Summer Phillip an Americorp worker is organizing a clean-up with WVU students for the morning of the
event and has taken care of supplies
FODC will have experiments with water and coloring sheets
Boys and Girls Club will have games down on the playground
Pop Shop-Chris Russell will have local artists performing
MT Pockets- is having a free children’s play and showing puppets w disabilities
John updated the Facebook event page and contacted the City calendar
Ron will give building tours on the ½ hour
Marti will set up a branding idea booth; and will provide balloons for the day of the event.
Chris contacted Piles of Pasta food truck which will be on site.
Danielle will have an information table about the Woodburn Neighborhood Association and Friends of
Woodburn group.
Danielle also shared information she had learned from attending a seminar regarding starting a Non-profit
held at WVU.
Ron shared an update on the location of the elevator that it is now being moved inside the building due to
structural issues. No one knew if a conversation has been held between the city and the tenants.
Chris announced that the large access gate to the playground would be locked due to some car parking
issues.
Chris said that the grant that was applied for from Dominion Hope will be used for building repairs.
John Trumble will chair the next meeting since Chris will be out of town.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:00 p.m.
The next meeting will be May 30, 2019@ 6 p.m. at Woodburn School.
